Welcome

Piano Teachers Forum (PTF) is a unique association of area piano teachers, meeting monthly in central N.J., who gather together to encourage and stimulate professional development. PTF meetings involve exciting presentations by renowned speakers and clinicians. Ideas are shared and many teaching needs fulfilled.

PTF sponsors an annual Festival which provides a non-competitive opportunity for students to have their performances evaluated by professional adjudicators.

Performance opportunities are provided for students and teachers.

Membership is open to all piano teachers with a desire to pursue excellence in piano teaching.

Please take a moment to read a letter from our 2016-2017 President, Jean Parsons:

Dear Colleagues,

"Music is an exquisite art. It exists in and of itself and is the supreme solace. It is the spiritual counterpoint to the world’s cacophony, essential as a heartbeat.”

—Joyce Carol Oates

We are indeed so fortunate to spend the majority of our time in music to try to balance the particularly loud cacophony of the world these days, even these hours or these minutes!

Come join us at the Piano Teachers Forum. Together, we will continue to deepen our study of and involvement with music and the art of teaching. We have much to share with each other, and much to learn from our excellent presenters. In our rapidly changing world, our students will need music more than ever, and through PTF, we can further develop the skills we need to give them this gift.

We have the good fortune of being hosted by Jacobs Music on Route 1 in Lawrenceville on the first Friday of each month from October through May.  We meet at 9:15AM for coffee, followed by the program at 9:45AM which lasts about an hour and a half.   The exciting presenters and topics for the year are listed on the enclosed calendar, and you won’t want to miss any!

In addition to our monthly programs, we also offer a monthly Performance Group.  This is a chance for teachers to get together and and play for each other in an informal setting, followed by discussion and feedback.

In February, members who wish to may enter students in the annual Performathon to benefit the Ronald McDonald House.

Our Spring Festival will be held on March 11, 2017, and the theme this year is “Let's Play!” Students prepare two pieces by memory; one from our syllabus, and one in a contrasting style. The entry application and other pertinent information will be available to members at the beginning of December.

To join us, fill out and mail the enclosed application and $50.00 membership fee to our Corresponding Secretary, Angela Triandafillou Jones, by September 15h. (After September 15h, the membership fee will increase to $60.00.)

Applications cannot be processed without payment, and returning members must complete a new form each year. In order to be included in our Membership Directory, and to be eligible to enter students in our Spring Festival, applications and membership dues must be received by our first meeting on October 7h.

Guests are always welcome to attend meetings for a $10.00 fee at the door.

The PTF is entirely run by volunteers. Many thanks to all those who make it happen so well and who have for decades! Your dedication is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Jean Parsons
