Nepal Ireland Society gets new General Secretary at its Annual General Assembly in Dublin
8th March 2020. Nepal Ireland Society held its Annual General Assembly in Dublin today. President of Nepal Ireland Society Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya presented a list of activities carried out in the past two years. The Chief Treasurer Mr. Prakash Mali provided details on the society's expenses. The attendees at the General Assembly unanimously elected all officials with Mr. Balkrishna Shrestha as the new General Secretary of the Society. Mr. Gangaram Kandel, as a new Vice-President, has been tasked to oversee activities in Nepal that includes co-ordination with Nepal-Ireland Inter Parliamentary Friendship Group, Health Projects in Nepal, etc. Ms. Prajaya Neupane will be the new cultural co-ordinator. Ms. Prajaya will be responsible for the promotion of Nepal's art, culture and music in Ireland through various events with Nepal Ireland Day in September being one of the major projects this year. Ms. Emer Connolly who has been an ardent supporter of Nepal Ireland Society has formally joined the society as an executive committee member. The full list of the incoming committee is as follows. Nepal Ireland Society participates in Holiday World Show in Dublin to promote the Visit Nepal 2020 Campaign
Nepal Ireland Society, in collaboration with Embassy of Nepal London and Nepal Tourism Board, participated in Holiday World Show in Dublin from 24th January to 26th January 2020. Holiday World Show is the biggest Travel Fair held annually in Dublin that attracts Travel Agencies, Tour Operators, Government Tourism Departments, etc. as exhibitors from all over Europe. The event had more than 50,000 visitors. The president of Nepal Ireland Society Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya said the participation at Holiday World Show was a huge success; thousands of holiday enthusiasts visited the stall, many of them who have been to Nepal and a number of people who have shown interest to visit Nepal in near future. On behalf of Nepal Ireland Society, the team comprising of Mr. Jivan Timalsina, Mr. Balkrishna Shrestha, Mr. Prakash Mali, Mr. Chris Avison, Ms. Mary Solan Avision, Mr. Ram Narayan Poudel, Ms. Moira Lawson, Ms. Alison Irwin, Ms, Emer Conolly, Ms. Sharada Petticrew, Ms. Parajaya Neupane and Mr. Krishna Chakhun were involved throughout all three days interacting with the visitors. Maria Heffernan from Ireland wins Visit Nepal 2020 Europe Lottery
7th January 2020. The Visit Nepal 2020 Europe Lottery, organized by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the Embassy of Nepal in London in collaboration with Nepal Ireland Society has announced its winners today amidst an event in Dublin to mark the inauguration of Visit Nepal 2020 campaign in Ireland. The lucky winner is Ms. Maria Heffernan from Ireland. The 2nd prize, 3rd prize and 4th prize winners are Mr. Tobias Muller from Germany, Mr. Perraud Benoit from France and Ms. Rachel Livett from United Kingdom respectively. The winner gets two return tickets to Nepal and 14 nights free stay at luxurious hotels in Nepal including free vouchers from renowned restaurants in Kathmandu. Similarly, the other winners get free accommodation at various top class hotels in Nepal. The chief coordinator of Visit Nepal 2020 Europe Lottery and the President of Nepal Ireland Society Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya said - “We had 10341 entries in total from various Nepalese restaurants in Europe, online submissions and through entries at different events organized in Ireland and other countries in Europe. The amount of interest people have shown from all over Europe is immense. Collectively, via social media, we were able to reach out to more than 200000 Europeans with the message of inviting to visit Nepal in 2020.” The organizers said the main objective of the lottery program was to make Nepalese Restaurants in Europe as tourism promotion hubs and promote Visit Nepal 2020 campaign through them. This program is an effort to reach out to potential tourists in Europe directly, to contribute towards the campaign target of 2 million tourists in 2020. An estimate shows, there are more than 700 Nepalese Restaurants all over Europe with cumulative annual customers to be more than one million. The customers in these restaurants are predominantly those who love Nepal and have some affinity towards the country. They will be more likely to go on holiday to Nepal. Mr. Shakya added the Nepal team for the Visit Nepal 2020 Europe Lottery comprising led by Mr. Prabin Shakya worked around the clock for the last six months contacting Nepalese restaurants and diaspora abroad requesting to ask their customers and local friends respectively to enter the lottery draw. The team also contacted premium hotels and restaurants in Nepal for sponsoring free nights stay in their hotels and vouchers in restaurants. The free return tickets for the winners are sponsored by Nepal Tourism Board. Visit Nepal 2020 Europe Lottery draw took place in the presence of the Third Secretary at Embassy of Nepal London Mr. Tejendra Regmi, Nepal Ireland Society Officials: Mr. Jivan Timalsina (Vice President), Mr. Gangaram Kandel (General Secretary), Mr. Balkrishna Shrestha (Joint-Treasurer) and Mr. Chetraj Oli (Executive Member). Nepal Ireland Society to participate in Holiday World Show in Dublin to promote the Visit Nepal 2020 Campaign
15th December 2019. Nepal Ireland Society, in collaboration with Embassy of Nepal London and Nepal Tourism Board, will be participating in Holiday World Show to be held in Dublin from 24th January to 26th January 2020. Holiday World Show is the biggest Travel Fair held annually in Dublin that attracts Travel Agencies, Tour Operators, Government Tourism Departments, etc. as exhibitors from all over Europe. The organizers claim the event will be visited by more than 40,000-holiday enthusiasts who are looking for new and exciting destinations for their next holiday trip. The event will be covered widely in major newspapers, online travel portals and social media in Ireland that could potentially bring the total reach to more than half a million. The president of Nepal Ireland Society Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya said the society is investing significant time, effort and money in the hope to boost the number of Irish Tourists visiting Nepal in the year 2020 and beyond. Mr. Shakya said Nepal Ireland Society, in its effort to promote Nepal Tourism in Ireland, has been organizing various events such as talk programs, exhibitions etc. and has set a goal to bring more than 5000 Irish Tourists to Nepal in the Year 2020 on the occasion of government announced Visit Nepal 2020 campaign. Nepal Ireland Society has formed a committee to oversee the successful participation in the event. The society is requesting those interested to join the committee. Nepal Ireland Day 2019 Concludes Successfully
The Embassy of Nepal in London, Nepal Ireland Society and various Nepalese organizations in Ireland, with support from South Dublin County Council, Dublin City Council and ICD Business College, jointly organized 'Nepal Ireland Day' on 8th September 2019 at Farmleigh, Phoenix Park Dublin. The event was a huge success with more than 8000 visitors.
The event comprised of Nepalese cultural programme, Nepal photo exhibition (in roll-up banners with name of Nepalese restaurants in Ireland), Nepalese Handicraft Stall, stalls of Irish NGOs who work in Nepal, Visit Nepal 2020 Europe Lottery stall and photo exhibition on flat-screen TV sets with photographs taken by Irish tourists who visited Nepal last year. Nepal Ireland Day is the biggest Nepalese event in Ireland that commemorates the ever-growing friendship and links between Nepal and Ireland. In his keynote speech, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Nepal London Mr. Sharad Raj Aran said the celebration of Nepal Ireland Day marks the ever-growing links between Nepal and Ireland. He requested the attendees to visit Nepal and also solicited support to make the government announced Visit Nepal 2020 campaign successful. Speaking at the opening ceremony, a member of Ireland Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group and member of Irish Parliament Deputy Sean Crowe said he is delighted to be part of the celebration and vowed to continue working to take relations between Nepal and Ireland to a new height. Representing South Dublin County Council Mayor, Councillor Mary Seery-Kearney said she had studied about Nepal’s constitution during her days as a law student and she is feeling immensely honored to be part of a major festival of that country in Ireland. Vice President of Nepal Ireland Society- Mr. Jivan Timalsina welcomed the guest. Chairperson of Didi Bahini group Ms. Sharada Petticrew and chairperson of Chitwan Samaj Ireland Mr. Chetraj Oli also spoke at the ceremony. Ms. Alison Irwin and Ms. Sheela Gautam jointly hosted the event. President of Nepal Ireland Society Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya introduced the executive committee members of Nepal Ireland Society who had worked tirelessly in putting together the event. Mr. Shakya thanked everyone who has contributed immensely to making this annual event successful. He also informed that the link between the two nations has taken a significant leap on that very day with the visit of the Ceann Comhairle (Rt. Hon. Speakers of the Irish Parliament) and his delegation team to Nepal. The Ceann Comhairle, Convener of Ireland Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group Deputy Maureen O’Sullivan, Senator Catherine Noone and the delegation team landed in Nepal shortly after the opening ceremony. The main player of the day was the weather; the event was blessed with beautiful weather. Nepalese living in different parts of Ireland attended the event in traditional dresses. The attire and the costume worn by cultural artists who performed at the event produced a scintillating atmosphere of exceptional Nepalese culture in the historic venue of Dublin.

Nepal Ireland Day to promote Visit Nepal 2020 Campaign
The Embassy of Nepal in London, Nepal Tourism Board, and Nepal Ireland Society are jointly organizing 'Nepal Ireland Day' on 8th September 2019, to promote “Visit Nepal 2020” campaign and to celebrate the friendship between the two countries. The event will take place at Farmleigh, Phoenix Park in Dublin. The event will comprise of a cultural program with performances from both Nepalese and Irish artists. The event will also include an electronic photo exhibition of photographs taken by Irish tourists, Nepalese Handicraft Stalls, Travel Agencies and Airlines Stalls and various other activities and performances. Nepal Ireland Day is the biggest event in Ireland that commemorates the ever-growing friendship and links between Nepal and Ireland. The event will be a showcase of Nepalese Culture, Nepal’s Heritage, Nepal’s potential as a trading hub and portraying Nepal as one of the top holiday destinations in the world. In connection with Nepal Ireland Day 2019, President of Nepal Ireland Society Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya expressed his hope that this annual event will continue to help flourish the relations between Nepal and Ireland at both country and people to people level. Mr. Shakya reiterated his goal of bringing 5000 Irish tourists to Nepal in 2020. The entire team at Nepal Ireland Society are gearing up to promote the campaign on the day where the organizers are expecting to get more than 15,000 visitors. Effort to bring 5000 Irish Tourists for Visit Nepal 2020 begins in Dublin
In the joint collaboration with the Embassy of Nepal London and Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal Ireland Society organized Visit Nepal 2020 campaign promotion program in Dublin, Ireland on 22nd July 2019. The event was called “ Everest 2019 - Story from the Ground”. Ireland’s prolific mountaineer Mr. Noel Hanna, who summited Mt. Everest in 2019, shared his experience of climbing Mt. Everest this year. One of the main objectives of the event was to provide factual information regarding negative publicity that Everest gathered in 2019. Mr. Noel holds the coveted record of being an Irishman to climb Mt. Everest for the highest number of times. In 2019, he summited Mt. Everest for the 9th time. There were more than 100 Irish mountaineering enthusiasts who attend the event. All of them were very keen to visit Nepal; some of them are planning to visit Nepal again. Some of the attendees who have been to Nepal shared their experience of their Nepal visit where they fondly remembered the hospitality of Nepalese people and the Momo they had during their stay. The attendees were unanimous in their appreciation for the hospitality offered to them. President of Nepal Ireland Society and the Chief coordinator of Nepal Tourism Board’s Experience Nepal Campaign Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya requested the attendees to visit Nepal. He said that between 2016 and 2018, 2500 Irish people visited Nepal on average each year. He said he is currently targeting to get 5000 tourists from Ireland to visit Nepal in 2020 to contribute towards Nepal Government’s target of bringing in 2 million tourists in 2020. At the onset of the event, Nepal Ireland Society Senior Vice President Dr. Jane Fenlon honored Mr. Noel Hanna with Nepal’s trademark pashmina shawl, Vice President Mr. Jivan Timalsina offered a badge and society’s President Mr.Deepesh Man Shakya handed over felicitation certificate with a thank you note to Mr. Noel for his contribution towards the promotion of Nepal Tourism abroad, particularly in Ireland. Joint Secretary Ms. Alison Irwin hosted the event and Joint Treasurer Mr. Balkrishna Shrestha and Executive Member Mr. Chet Raj Oli offered ‘Khada’ to the attendees. Nepal-Ireland Parliamentary Frienship Group formed
We are delighted to announce that after tireless lobbying in numerous meetings spearheaded by Nepal Ireland Society, the Federal Parliament of Nepal has formally established Nepal Ireland Parliamentary Friendship Group comprising 9 Honorable members of House of Representatives (Lower House) and National Assembly (Upper House) under the convenorship of Hon. Radha Kumari Gyawali who is also a former minister. It is another big milestone for Nepal Ireland Society after the formation of Ireland Nepal parliamentary Friendship group in Dáil Éireann (Irish Parliament) in 2017 which was the result of more than 2 years of incessant effort by Nepal Ireland Society. With the establishment of Nepal Ireland Parliamentary Friendship Group, Nepal-Ireland relations have entered into a new phase. We, at Nepal Ireland Society, strongly believe it will further foster the areas of co-operation between the two countries. On 18th May 2019, We organised an interaction program in Kathmandu with the convener and a member (Member of Parliament Hon. Lal Prasad Sanwa Limbu) of Nepal-Ireland Parliamentary Friendship Group. Also in attendance were former Prime Minister and Member of Parliament Hon. Madhav Kumar Nepal, former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament Hon. Surendra Pandey and Member of Parliament Hon. Dibya Mani Rajbhandari. Mr. Niall Kavanagh and Ms. Selena Foley who are Irish expats in Nepal were also present at the historic event. At the interaction event, we also launched 'Nepal Health Book' which is the joint effort of Ireland-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group and Nepal Ireland Society. This book highlights the areas of possible cooperation between Nepal and Ireland in Nepal's health sector. The book was formally launched by former Prime Minister and Member of Parliament Hon. Madhav Kumar Nepal. At the event, president of Nepal Ireland Society Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya and General Secretary Mr. Gangaram Kandel provided an overview of society's effort in strengthening relations between Nepal and Ireland. Nepal Ireland Society and Chitwan Samaj Ireland to jointly organize cultural night
15th Jan 2019 - Nepal Ireland Society and Chitwan Samaj Ireland are jointly organising Nepalese Cultural Event on 25th February 2019 at Teachers Club in Dublin. Nepal's popular comedian Mr. Sandeep Chhetri & singer Ms. Indira Joshi will be travelling to Ireland to perform at the event along with the local artists.
