Thesis Format
General Thesis Templates can be found here. These are only meant to be of help – not mandatory to use. The look of the content itself is up to you – almost all the way. The only mandatory templates/pages are the one for the title pages etc. And then the format itself finally should be in S5, but the general templates are always in A4.
Next Job
Looking for your next job? These might be helpful:
Note that Swedish firms expect CV contents and organization different from international firms. This is true even if you write your CV in English. Therefore, it is suggested to get some help, for example from Karriarcentrum-CV .
It may take some time to find a new job in Sweden. Therefore, it is recommended to start the search process well before the graduation.
Unemployment Insurance
It may happen that after graduation, one becomes unemployed before finding the next job. An unemployment insurance, Arbetslöshetskassa (A-kassa), makes this transition smoother. There is an A-Kassa dedicated to academics, Akademikernas A-Kassa (AEA). One should register with them at least one year before graduation.
Job Security Agreement
There is a service that provides help when a work contract is coming to end. In 2014, the university has a contract with Trygghetsstiftelsen (TSN) for this purpose. (The contractor may change in the future.) The employer registers the employees that are close to the end of their contracts. As an employee you cannot do much about it, but to be aware. For your information, some parts of a SULF email message regarding this issue is copied here:
"Saco-S (the negotiating confederation which SULF is a part of) have finished intensive negotiations about the Job security agreement at a national level. SULF made a reservation against the decision to sign the new agreement, since it will take longer time for many short-term employees to qualify for help through the agreement. During 2014 the current agreement will apply, without any changes. If you have a short-term employment and continue working in 2015, there will be a transition period with special rules, and in some cases the new agreement will apply. If you are a SULF member at Linköping university, feel free to contact our local officer – sulf@liu.se – or our members’ helpline at 08-505 836 00, open 9-11 weekdays all summer. Detailed information are available in Swedish at: www.sulf.se/Om-SULF/Nyheter/SULF-reserverar-sig-mot-nytt-omstallningsavtal/"
Residence Permit for non-EU PhD Students
Now non-EU PhD students/graduates may receive a permanent residence permit to stay and search for a new job in Sweden. Therefore, it is less risky to put effort and focus on Swedish job market (e.g., by learning Swedish). For your information, some parts of a SULF email message regarding this issue is copied here:
"SULF has been working for non-European doctoral candidates to change the regulations about permanent residence permit (PUT) and the possibility to stay and search for work after dissertation. Finally the Swedish parliament has made a decision about this – 4 years of residence permit as a doctoral student during a 7 year-period will qualify for permanent residence permit. The rules will apply from July 1 [2014]."
