Useful for Japanese 10s, 11s and 12s, students write words horizontally and vertically tallying up points. It is best if the teacher starts them off with a very long word like 'yuubinkyoku'. Hiragana characters may be used as large and small letters (i.e. tsu, ya, yu, yo). Characters with changing sounds for ten ten and maru (ka-ga, hi-pi) can be used interchangeably. This activity has the students prepare an advertisement for a Tokyo apartment. This apartment has one bad feature which makes it difficult to rent - the students use their imagination to decide what that bad feature is.
