Niel Black & Company was a highly successful firm which operated between 1839 and 1869 in the Port Phillip District of New South Wales (later Victoria) and South Australia. 3 main pastoral leases were held in the pre-Goldrush period: Glenormiston, formerly known as Strathdownie (from February 1840) and The Sisters, or Rises (from 1844) in Victoria; and Warreanga (from 1845) in South Australia.
Over 500 men and at least 5 women were employed during the first ten years alone. Their stories remain largely untold, unknown except perhaps to a handful of their descendants.
Do you have information on any of the employees and their families? If so it would be great to hear from you. I'll be more than willing to share whatever details I have so far on specific employees and their families.
