The 2002 Annual Conference established Continuing Education Guidelines for Ministerial leaders serving congregations in pastoral roles. (Read the Guidelines Paper)  

NOTE: The 2007 Annual Conference recommended that Districts "require that all pastors have ongoing continuing education focusing on inter-cultural activity." and "require intercultural content CEUs for re-ordination and relicensing."

CONTINUING EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

BIBLICAL STUDIES

 The Theology of Paul offered by the Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership as an online class January 12 to March 7, 2009.  Craig Gandy, instructor.  This course introduces students to the ministry and theology of the apostle Paul.  Course fee is $200.  Registration deadline is December 12.  2 CEU or TRiM credit.  For additional information email  academy@bethanyseminary.edu.

Unmarried couples living together This event is part of a Pastoral Care Continuing Education Series offered at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart.  This event will examine how pastors can provide pastoral care to co-habitating couples in the church while simultaeously addressing the ethical questions and complex congregational dynamics generated by these situations.  Thursday, June 4, 8:30-3:00.  .4 CEU.

SPECIAL MINISTRIES

 Clergy Renewal Grants from Lilly Endowment for Indiana congregations are offered annually. The purpose is to strengthen Indiana congregations by providing opportunities for pastors to step away briefly from the persistent obligations of daily parish life and to engage in a period of renewal and reflection. Additional information and the opportunity to request a brochure/application is at indianaclergy.org .   A few copies of the 2008 brochure/application are now available at the district office.  

 Clergywomen's Retreat sponsored by the Church of the Brethren Office of Ministry will be held from January 12-15, 2009 in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.  The Retreat , open to all licensed and ordained women in the denomination, will focus on the theme of "Reconnecting with Holy Fire: Fanning the Flames of the Spirit Among Us."  Acclaimed author, teacher and speaker Marva Dawn is providing leadership.  Registration fee covering housing, programming and meals is $290.  Register online at www.brethren.orgView the brochure.

 

GENERAL ENRICHMENT (Professional growth should lead the pastor into at least one area that is not directly related to pastoral ministry. Transitional Pastors Group - A clergy support group which meets 4 times per year for five hours to strengthen and sharpen the professional skills of those doing transitional (intentional interim) work with congregations.  $200 annual fee includes lunch.
