In the fall of 2009 I was designing a new low resolution spectrograph. To keep costs low, I decided to use standard commercial lenses from Canon and Nikon. The standard commercial ray trace package, Zemax, has a set of standard doublets and triplets, but nothing from Canon and Nikon.
This is frustrating for the designer. Double Gauss designs (the design family of standard photographic lenses) have specifications predicated on a specific test case based on photography. To truly predict performance, one needs to shoot rays through the system. Canon and Nikon have patented their lens designs, so the prescriptions are available, but I could not find prescriptions in a format accessible to Zemax.
So, I have implemented several designs in Zemax and provided them here for your pleasure. These are attached at the bottom.
NOTE --- The lens notes specify the Patent # I cribbed the Rx from. If you find a mistake, please contact me!
