NBF GIFTS GRESHAM PARK BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION WITH FIRST AED

With over 600 youth participating in baseball and softball each year with GPBSA, the new AED will be readily available for any emergencies that may occur on or off the field.

Lawrenceville, GA - Smiling Hearts - A donation from Smiling Hearts - The Nick Blakely Foundation (NBF) will supply Gresham Park Baseball and Softball Association (GPBSA) with its first automated external defibrillator (AED). Today, NBF announces our AED donation to GPBSA on what would have been Nick's 24th birthday.

When sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) happens, if not treated within ten minutes, SCA can lead to death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 2,000 young people under age 25 in the United States die each year of SCA. But with early chest compressions (CPR) and defibrillation, their chances of survival are doubled.

Nineteen percent of cardiac arrests happen out in public, in places like recreational parks. With over 600 youth participating in baseball and softball each year with GPBSA, the new AED will be readily available for any emergencies that may occur on or off the field.

GPBSA's President, Tellis Holloway, accepts The Nick Blakely Foundation's AED donation from Greg Goodwin, Nick's cousin, at Gresham Park.

GPBSA will receive a ZOLL® AED Plus® with pads, batteries, a carry case, and an eight-year subscription to Arch AED Medical Direction and Program Management. Arch enables AED owners to properly maintain, track, and service their AED units, helping to instill confidence in their ability to manage legal compliance and maintenance needs required by law.

Tellis Holloway is the President of GPBSA. "We at Gresham Park are so honored that we were chosen to receive the AED unit and even more blessed to be NBF's first donation in Atlanta. GPBSA is committed to having all Board Members, coaches, team moms, and parents know the seriousness of SCA, and what the AED means to Gresham Park and the Community. Thanks again Ryan Brown and The Nick Blakely Foundation," Holloway said.

"Our AED donation to GPBSA is our first in the City of Atlanta, and so we are proud to be able to serve additional communities," said Ryan Brown, Executive Director of NBF. "GPBSA is helping thousands of youth reach their full potential as both athletes and students. We support their mission, and want to help provide a safe environment for these kids to excel."

NBF’s vision is to turn every potential tragedy of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) into a story of survival. SCA remains the #1 killer of youth in sports. Our AED program enables us to offer any person who may experience SCA the best chance for survival by ensuring this life-saving device is available during an unexpected cardiac tragedy.
