The Portfolio of Nicholas Yanes

Professional Summary:

As a fan of MacGyver I always wanted to be able to do it all. (For those of you who don’t know who MacGyver is, what’s wrong with you? Also, look it up on Wikipedia.)

While I can’t disarm a weapon with bubblegum and a paperclip, I have become a jack of all trades in regards to media production. (And yes, I am disappointed that I can’t do anything impressive with bubblegum and paperclips.) From researching various aspects of the entertainment industries, to analyzing cross-media production, to book publishing and journalism, to marketing and social media/community management, I have a broad and mastered understanding of what is required to take an idea from birth to completion.

My primary strength is being able to gather and analyze vast amounts of data, and then communicate the condensed data in a manner that consumers and industry leaders can understand.

In addition to qualitative and communication skills, I understand the value of technical and quantitative strengths. As such, I am well versed in quantitative methods, and frequently deploy them in my academic and professional work. I have written articles about the economics of comic books and films, have been hired to write an analysis of data collected about console and social media games based on movie franchises (under NDA), and have examined sales data for my dissertation. To better measure my personal and professional social media impacts, I have learned how to use Hootsuite, Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, Klout, and Adobe’s analytics such as Omniture. I am also teaching my HTML/CSS to strengthen my mastery of web content production, and I am well versed in Content Management Systems (CMS).

Most importantly, I not only have the needed professional skills and experience, I have the passion needed to make it in this highly competitive job market.
