  • Starting Monday 8/29, check the list on the door of Room 123 to see if you are eligible to apply.
  • Pick up an application packet from Mrs. Gaskins in Room 123 before or after school Wednesday 8/31-Friday 9/2 (this is the only application process this year).

  • Application materials are due to Mrs. Gaskins in Room 123 no later than September 15 at 2:45pm.

     Spring 2010 Service Forms: Due Friday, April 9. Seniors: Please make sure to meet this deadline to ensure you can graduate with NHS recognition and be acknowledged at Senior Night and in the Senior Night Program.

    Our next Adopt-A-Highway Clean-Up: Friday, March 26. Meet in room 909 at 2:40 p.m.
     
    Sign up in room 126 by 2:30  on Tuesday, March 23. You must watch the safety video prior to participating: http://www.ncdot.org/doh/Operations/dp_chief_eng/roadside/Beautification/Highway/safety.html. If you are under 18 you also need to have a signed parent permission form on file. Download a copy of the permission form from the "Forms" tab to the left.
     
     
    Important re: Tutoring Program: Please see e-mail or Facebook posting from Lea Crusen, or contact Lea directly, regarding the tutoring program we are piloting this spring. Your input is needed by Monday, March 15.
     
    Wake Enterprises Service Project: Saturday, March 6 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at 3333 Air Park Drive in Fuquay-Varina. Lunch will be provided. Check in with Chandler and/or Dominic when you arrive so that your participation can be recorded. Please bring tools for doing yard work if you have them (rakes, etc.).  
     
    If you participated in the Feb. 19 Adopt-A-Highway cleanup: See Ms. King by Friday, Feb. 26 to get your service form signed/verified. Service forms can be downloaded from the Forms tab on the menu to the left. 
     
    Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup: Friday, February 19 @ 2:40 p.m. We'll meet in room 126 to watch a short safety video and to pick up our cleanup materials. Please remember that you need a parent/guardian permission form on file if you are under age 18.     NHS Scholarship: Seniors interested in being nominated for the NHS scholarship should submit the necessary academic and extracurriculuar information to Ms. King or Mrs. Daniels by 2:30 on Tuesday, December 1.
     
    If you participate(d) in the Thanksgiving Basket Project and/or the Education Summit: Please be sure to bring your service form to Ms. King by Tuesday, December 1 to get your form signed. Please remember that all service must be verified on the service form when it is turned in. The service form can be downloaded under the Forms tab to the left.

    Adopt-A-Highway permission forms: Please submit to NHS officers, Mrs. Daniels, or Ms. King by Tuesday, October 20.
    Induction of new members: Tuesday, October 6 at 7 p.m. in FVHS' gym. 
     
     
    NHS Candidates: The letters containing the Faculty Council decisions re: your membership will be mailed on Wednesday, September 23. Please expect them at your home address on Thursday or Friday. If you don't receive your letter by the end of the weekend, please contact Ms. King.
     
    CURRENT NHS MEMBERS: Welcome back! There are two important things for you to take care of by Sept. 18.
     
    1) All members will be required to provide an e-mail address and subscribe to the e-mail distribution list. Please do the following no later than September 18:
     
    - Select/create the e-mail address to which you want NHS information sent. 
    - From that address, send a message to: BengalNHS@GMAIL.COM 
    - In the subject line please type your first and last name. You do not need to put anything in the body of the message.
     
    2) Please download and review the Recommitment Memo and complete the signature page by September 18. (Memo is located under the Forms tab.)
     
    Please remember that our monthly meetings will be the 2nd Monday from 2:40 - 3:40 p.m. Our first meeting is Monday, September 14.
     Members are reminded that you may only miss one meeting per semester. NHS members who are absent more frequently may face disciplinary action from the Faculty Council. This could include probation or dismissal.
     
     
    Thank you for your interest in NHS! The NHS selection period begins on August 27 when eligible students can begin picking up application packets. This packet will provide extensive information on the process for applying and being selected for NHS.
     
    Please know that deadlines are not flexible -- it is critical that you stay on top of things. Please ask if you have any questions!
     
    Application packets will be available for eligible students in room 126 during the dates/times below. Packets will not be available at other times.
     
    ·         Thursday, August 27: 7:00 – 7:20 a.m.
    ·         Friday, August 28: 7:00 – 7:20 a.m. and 2:30-2:45 p.m.
    ·         Monday, August 31: 7:00 – 7:20 a.m. and 2:30-2:45 p.m.
    ·         Tuesday, September 1: 7:00 – 7:20 a.m. and 2:30-2:45 p.m.
     
    SENIORS - TASSELS ARE IN; READ THIS CAREFULLY! Seniors who have turned in their completed service forms AND have paid the $5 tassel fee can pick up their tassels at one of the following times in room 126:
     
    - 7:00 - 7:15 a.m. on Friday, May 22 or Wednesday, May 27
    - 2:20 - 2:35 p.m. on Thursday, May 21; Friday, May 22; or Wednesday, May 27
     
    Tassels will not be given out at any other times!
     
    Remember that cords will be given out on Senior Night as part of the ceremony. If you do not attend Senior Night you can pick up your cords before/after school in room 126.

    -OFFICER INFORMATION: Our NHS chapter will select four officers each year. Those officers, and their basic responsibilities, are:

     1) President - Provides overall leadership for our chapter and ensures that our chapter and its members are fulfilling their duties and responsibilities. Presides over NHS meetings and functions.

    2) Vice-President - Provides leadership to our chapter and assists the president with carrying out his/her responsibilities.

    3) Secretary - Keeps the official records of NHS activities, including meeting minutes and attendance.

    4) Treasurer - Keeps track of NHS revenue and expenses and helps to plan the budget for each year.
