Thank you to everyone who came to try outs. Each year we try our best to make this decision.  We made the selection based on three criteria: top application, top teacher recommendation, and tryout performance. There were close to 80 applicants, and we had to narrow it down to the top 18.

FIRST LEGO League 2016

Thank you for your interest in FIRST LEGO League. Fun and challenges are ahead for all of us! It's not only building LEGOs. There is programming work, an extensive research project with a full presentation at qualifying, and teamwork with full cooperation in all parts of the process.

The challenge for 2016 is ANIMAL ALLIES. The challenge has 3 parts: the Robot Game (programming), the Project (research), and the FLL Core Values (teamwork). Please take the time to visit the website (www.firstlegoleague.org/challenge) for videos and more information.

  • 2 teams of 8 students wll represent KMS
  • Experience is not required, but we would love it
  • Conduct must be excellent with teamwork and cooperation is a priority
  • Member fees of $40 (includes team t-shirts)
  • Meet every Monday 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM for practice. (First practice starts on Monday, September 12, 2016.)
  • On average FLL member practices at least 35 hours and attend 2 full days of competition. FLL is almost equivalent to a major science project and programming.

Students MUST be picked up no later than 4:05 PM on practice days. If they are not picked up by this time, they will go to the Afterschool Program and they can be picked up at your convenience. If your child is not already enrolled, a $15 drop in charge will be incurred for the Afterschool Program.

Team members will be announced at KMS Wednesday morning September 7, 2016.  Also, an e-mail will go out to the parents of selected members on the same day.

We will need at least 2 parents a week at school with the students as mentors. We will also need parents to host research meetings with primary sources, arrange and host practice at homes on weekends if necessary, handle t-shirts for competition, assist with brochure development and many, many other tasks that will come up. Thank you for your consideration and interest in this afterschool enrichment club.

Please contact Mr. Nguyen [Luan_p_nguyen@delkalbschoolsga.org] if you have any questions.
