Family History Project

If you're going to complete parts of it during Thanksgiving or Winter Break, here is what you need to know. If you didn't complete it then, I would still read this.
  • Read the directions.
  • If you're going to see family members for the holidays, it's a great opportunity to find out what the family knows about the Immigration Experience. Use the "hive mind" of your family to see what people know and what kinds of artifacts they may have to help. See if any have done previous research or subscribed to services to find your family tree.
  • Read the directions.
  • If you will see lots of relatives who were coherent during the Twenties Century , it's a great opportunity to work on the Historical Memories. You'll need to prepare a list of topics to ask about. In addition, ask them to about their memories. These can be political events and things that you read in the history book, but they don't have to. Ask about music, movies, books, and daily life. Here is a very informal list I made while reading previous projects of a few topics.
  • Read the directions.
  • If you will see your oldest living relative, it's a great opportunity to conduct that interview. You need to prepare your list of questions. Remember that the focus is on the history of your family. However,  you can also get some information that will help you on the Immigration Experience or the Historical Memories at the same time.
  • Read the directions.
DUE DATES:

  • Family History Project Worksheet - recommended. Completing that with your family can save you some work later.
  • Immigration Experience due April 27, on turnitin.com only
  • Interview With Oldest Relative due April 27, on turnitin.com only
  • Historical Memories due April 27, on turnitin.com only

All parts are due on the same day this year. I gave you notice back in October. You have another month and a half. If you choose to do it all on April 26, you need to also discuss with your family how to budget your time better.

GRADING:

Read the directions. In addition, there will be a rubric on turnitin.com.  Take a look at that before you submit it to make sure you have followed all of the directions.
