The saga of the family at the heart of country music

The Winding Stream is a fabulous new feature length film about the history of country music and the family at the center of it all.  The film is packed beginning to end with the music of the Carter - Cash family and features three generations of Carter-Cash's as well as many well known musicians that have been deeply influenced by their music.  The saga is punctuated with studio performances by celebrated roots music practitioners like Johnny and June Carter Cash, George Jones, Rosanne Cash, Sheryl Crow, Kris Kristofferson and others.   The film was completed this past spring and has been touring the festival circuit this summer, picking up awards and praise (see below) all along the way.

Beth Harrington is an independent filmmaker and musician, originally from Boston, now living in Oregon.   Though she has completed the film, it can not be released to theaters or for broadcast until all the musical rights have been cleared.

On March 30, the Newton Nomadic Theater and NewTV teamed up to sponsor a benefit screening of "The Winding Stream" at NewTV's studios   The soldout event packed both the NewTV screening room and the studio.  The evening began with live Carter Family music by local musicians Crowes Pasture (Monique Byrne & Andy Rozopin) along with Deborah Silverstein, followed by the film.  Filmmaker Beth Harrington was on hand to tell about the making of the film and for questions from the audience after the screening.  The nigh finished up with a beautiful performance from Deborah Silverstein of a song she wrote that was inspired by seeing the film months earlier at the Boston Film Festival.

Thanks for all of you who turned out for the evening.  All proceeds from the event went directly to The Winding Stream project to help get this very special film out to a wider audience.
