The primary role of the U3A is to provide life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities for learning for semi-retired and retired people, either to gain new knowledge and insights or to expand on what they already have. New interests, entertainment and companionship are enjoyed, and members are encouraged to contribute by offering their own skills and knowledge to other members.
The organisation is a self-help one and, here in Newquay, the leaders come from within the group so that costs are kept to a minimum.  The Newquay U3A is now entering its 11th year, and our present membership has grown to over 200.  We have between 70 and 100 members attending the monthly general meetings at the Lane Theatre (click on monthly meetings for map & directions), when various Speakers are invited to inform and entertain us after our social get-together over refreshments.
We currently have over 28 smaller interest groups covering some 25 varied subjects, meeting as required in a wide variety of venues or each others homes and are entirely voluntary.  New groups can be set up at any time by two or three members having a common interest.
U3A is international and the UK national office, which is at 52 Lant Street, London SE1 1RB, issues a periodic magazine and also stocks a wide and ever increasing range of learning aids to buy or borrow. Much of this material is from the Open University and is very well presented. We now also have a regional website featuring all the U3A groups in the south west.

Please note that we now have a new U3A designed Website where you can find more recent photographs and notes taken at recent General Meetings.
