Welcome

  • IT'S TIME FOR SCIENCE FAIR AGAIN!
The Newport Schools Science Fair is an annual event that celebrates science by:
    • Engaging students in hands-on science activities in school,
    • Giving students, teachers and scientists an opportunity to work together and learn from each other, and
    • Sponsoring an event where students can share their scientific findings with the community.

Students in Grade 6-8 classrooms participate in Science Fair in odd-ended years (like this year, 2017).
Students in K-5 classrooms participate in Science Fair in even-ended years (like last year, 2016)
Independent project submissions from youth in grades K-8 are accepted every year. Download form

Beginning after Winter Break, students in grades 6-8 at Newport Middle School will be engaged in focused science and engineering activities at school with their teachers and with the help of volunteer science mentors.  Students will be asking questions, designing prototypes, conducting experiments, gathering data and compiling results. Everyone is invited to come see their findings by attending the annual Science Fair event:

Oregon Sea Grant and volunteer coordinators help organize the Science Fair in partnership with school staff and administrators.  Science Mentors are adults from the community who volunteer in classrooms to advise students on their investigations.
