How do you stay in touch with what's going on?


What is the Newport Elementary School Foundation?
The Newport Elementary School Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization of volunteers that funds valuable supplemental programs that significantly enhance our kid’s state funded basic education.  These programs are instrumental in improving student performance and test scores, ensuring they get the education to succeed now and in the future. 

Just a $1.37 a day can make a huge difference in your child’s educational experience.

Why does a public school need volunteers and fundraising?

What if your child's education did not include art, assemblies, computers & technology, science, physical education, performing arts or a full time library?

When we were kids these "extra-curricular" programs were part of a public school education and funded by the state.  Not today.  Due to the continued drastic budget cuts, these programs are no longer fully funded in a California public education.  We can't fix the budget but we can provide an outstanding education for our children with the additional programs funded by the Foundation.  Your generous donation to the Foundation will ensure an excellent education for your child at Newport El.


When does the Foundation Board meet?

Schedule of monthly meetings. 

Time: 6:30pm

Location: Parent Room @ Newport El

Days: Typically the second Wednesday of the month - unless asterisked below.

Dates:

2013: August 14th, September 11th, October 9th, November 13th, December 11th

2014: January 8th, February 12th, March 19th*, April 16th*, May 14th, June 11th

*3rd Wednesday in March and April


What programs will the Foundation support in 2013 - 2014?

  • 9 additional teachers/staff
    • Credentialed teachers, specializing in reading and math, to provide small group instruction
    • Science teacher
    • Kindergarten aide
    • Physical education teacher
    • Full time librarian giving students greater access to library resources and a place to take AR tests before and after school
    • Art instructor as part of the acclaimed Art Masters program which exposes students to advanced art traditions and styles
  • Technology
    • 35 mobile computer netbooks for 6th grade students
    • Wireless computer access in classrooms
    • Interactive computer white boards ("Smart Boards")
    • Smart Board laptops for all teachers in all classrooms
    • Accelerated Math and Accelerated Reader software
    • JiJi Math software that advances math skills for primary grades JiJi Math app for ipads and tablets
    • Funding to maintain all technology projects
    • New library computers
  • After Class Enrichment (ACE) oversight
  • Drama & Multi Purpose Room equipment and upgrades

Your tax-deductible financial support of the Foundation is important.  While we ask for a minimum of $1.37 a day per child, any amount that you can give makes a difference.


How can I find volunteer opportunities?

The Foundation and PTA work collaboratively to bring the best to Newport El.  We hope you find a niche in one or both groups by volunteering your experience first-hand.  There are many areas that need support:
