Blackheath Folk at the Ivanhoe will entertain with three great celebrations of spring in the Blue Mountains.

On Thursday 6th September, Cameron Murray’s mastery of ukulele will be supported by his father Alan Murray.  The Murray family’s facility with stringed instruments is equalled by few in the Blue Mountains/Lithgow area.  Together they offer a satisfying journey through material originating in many different countries that have influenced the Australian folk music scene.  Cameron is a keen collector of vintage instruments and the publisher and editor of international ukulele magazine KAMUKE.

On Thursday 4th October, we celebrate “100 years plus of bush poetry”.  Former shearer and Blue Mountains resident, Darcy Toner, will recite a bush poem.   Champion Linden bush poet Greg North is known nationwide and, as guest artist, will tie together the styles and genres of bush poetry heard on the night.  We’re inviting bush poetry lovers of all ages to bring their favourite bush verses from far and near.  The audience can expect to hear the works of Lawson, Paterson, Blue the Shearer, and others, much of it set to music.

The bush and Celtic tradition persists on Thursday 1st November with members of the Bunyip Bush Band who will perform some of their favourite bush songs.  It’s an opportunity to sit and listen closely to the musicianship of specialists whose instruments we’ve loved for many years.  Alan Foster and others will tell the stories behind their performance pieces.

On all three nights, the live music and poetry at the Blackheath New Ivanhoe Hotel will commence at 7.30 pm.  Entry is free and floor performers are welcome.
Numerous Blackheath Folk performers will support the Blackheath Rhododendron Festival’s POETS BREAKFAST at 9am, Saturday 3rd November, also at the New Ivanhoe Hotel.
