NBB Has Good Day at Scarlet and White Invitational

The new meet played host to both collegiate and post-collegiate athletes from all over the Northeast.In the men's 1000 meter run, Steve Carnevale took 5 seconds off of his personal record for the distance with a time of 2:28.92 which was good for 2nd place in the event. In the women's mile Jillian King got the win and Caitlin Fahey also ran well, both finishing just off their personal bests with times of 4:37.78 and 4:51.36 respectively.The green and gray return to action next Sunday at the USATF-New England Indoor Track and Field Championships to be held at Harvard University.
New Balance Boston Notch Top Performances at BU Valentine Invite

NBB had a great weekend highlighted by top 5 finishes in the men's and women's 5Ks and the women's 3K as well as several other stand out performances.Sydney Fitzpatrick (16:18.52) continued her strong indoor campaign with a 2nd place finish in the 5k and teammate Jess Minty (16:51.35) also had a great run to take 5th in the event. In the men's 5K Andrea Sorgato (14:12.82) ran a very smart race moving up late to take 4th place. In the women's 3K Jillian King (9:16.18) took 7 seconds off of her USATF national qualifying time set 2 weeks ago to earn a 5th place finish of her own.Other highlights from the weekend included personal bests from Alex Wallace (4:03.16), James Weider (4:14.29), and Brittany Colford (5:25.41) in the mile, and Katie Messina (17:20.91) in the 5K.Next weekend NBB returns to action at the Scarlet and White Invitational hosted by Boston University.
Hillard Wins Mile to Lead NBB at Harvard Invitational
Posted Feb 2, 2014, 7:38 AM by Chris McCannA small group of athletes represented New Balance Boston at the Harvard Invitational this weekend at the Gordon Track & Tennis Center in Cambridge, MA.Matthew Hillard lead the way for the green and gray winning the mile in a time of 4:17.87. Also turning in top 5 performances were Sarah "Ellie" Mosser (5:03.50, 3rd) in the mile, James Weider (1:57.76, 4th) in the 800, and Jess Minty (9:56.30, 4th) in the 3K.Next weekend NBB returns to action at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invite with the women competing on Friday followed by the men on Saturday.
Fitzpatrick, King Qualify for USATF Indoor Championships to Highlight Terrier Invite
Posted Jan 28, 2014, 11:13 AM by Chris McCannSydney Fitzpatrick and Jillian King both ran qualifying times for the USATF Indoor Championships on Friday night. Their performances were among many other great ones for the green and gray at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University.Although the strategies were quite different, the end results were very similar for Fitzpatrick and King in the fastest section of the women's 3K. King went out with the leaders at a very fast pace, coming through the mile in 4:52 with Fitzpatrick patiently running with the chase pack almost 8 seconds behind. Fitzpatrick then showed off her strength by moving up through the field over the next kilometer to join King for a very strong final quarter mile. Fitzpatrick (9:21.27) and King (9:23.07) ended up in 4th and 6th respectively and had plenty of room to spare with the USATF qualifying standard being 9:27.Other highlights on the weekend included: Sasha Varanka running a huge PR (17:24.44) with Karina Johnson (17:41.62) just missing her own in the 5K. Steve Carnevale (2:34.16) also set a new PR in the 1000m while Eric Ryan (4:14.79) and Alex Wallace (8:12.00) just missed theirs in the Mile and 3K respectively.Stay tuned as NBB will have competitors at the Harvard Invite next Saturday and the BU David Hemery Valentine Invite the following weekend.
Fitzpatrick, Wallace, and Fahey Pick Up Wins at GBTC Invite
Posted Jan 20, 2014, 12:47 PM by Chris McCannBoth the men's and women's teams made their presence felt at this weekend's GBTC Invitational held at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track Facility.The the most successful events on the day for the green and gray were the middle distances. In the women's Mile Sydney Fitzpatrick (4:52.35) lead wire to wire for the win while Karen Roa (5:01.52) also ran a strong race to take 4th place. On the men's side Alex Wallace (4:12.17) ran a very strong last 600 to take the top spot and Andrea Sorgato (4:18.65) also closed well for 3rd place. In the 800m Caitlin Fahey (2:17.57) took off from the start and never looked back as she won by almost 6 seconds. In the Invitational 1000 Eric Ryan (2:30.96) had a solid race to take 3rd.Next up for the team is the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University this weekend with the women competing Friday and the men on Saturday.
