ON YOUR MARKS - GET SET - GO …….. TO GROVE PARK ON WEDNESDAY 1ST APRIL, FOR THE NEVIS “MINI OLYMPICS” - THE GULF INSURANCE PRIMARY SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP.

GO AND SEE THE PRIMARY SCHOOL’S BEST ATHLETES FROM ST. JOHN’S; JOCELYN LIBURD (GINGERLAND); MAUDE CROSSE PREPARATORY; IVOR WALTERS (BROWN HILL); VIOLET NICHOLLS (COMBERMERE); ST. JAMES; ST. THOMAS’; AND LAST YEAR’S CHAMPION, CHARLESTOWN.

GROVE PARK, NEVIS, WILL BE THE PLACE TO BE, AS ATHLETES BATTLE FOR THE COVETED TROPHIES. EVENTS INCLUDE THE SPRINTS: 60, 100, 200 AND 400 METRES; THE MIDDLE DISTANCE EVENTS: 800 AND 1500 METRES; AND THE EXCITING RELAYS: 4 X 100 AND 4 X 400 METRES.

ALL THIS ACTION BEGINS AT 12 NOON WITH A COLOURFUL OPENING CEREMONY, UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF FORMER CHARLESTOWN PRIMARY SCHOOL ATHLETE, LEOSHA WYATT OF JESSUPS.

ADMISSION: ADULTS $10 & CHILDREN $5. VENDORS ARE ASKED TO NOTE THAT ABSOLUTELY NO BOTTLED DRINKS WILL BE ALLOWED INTO THE GROUNDS.

N.A.A.A. STAGES GULF INSURANCE PRIMARY SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP “Nevis’ Mini Olympics” Grove Park, Nevis will be rocking with action and excitement on Wednesday 1st April 2009 as the GULF INSURANCE Primary Schools Championship takes off. The Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (NAAA), in collaboration with the Department of Education, stages the biggest single event in Nevis and the highlight of the Sports season, the “MINI-OLYMPICS” of Nevis, sponsored by GULF INSURANCE through their local agents A. L. Evelyn Ltd.

This much anticipated meet, will see thousands of track & field lovers, school supporters, relatives and friends, flooding Grove Park with colour, excitement and vocal support. The opening ceremony at 12 noon will see dignitaries from Gulf Insurance, Education, Youth & Sports, Special Guests and NAAA witness the March Past of the athletes, lead by the most outstanding athletes and Class Champions of 2008. A cultural presentation will add a special flair to the opening proceedings, followed by the first event at 1 p.m. The meet will be carried live on radio and via the Internet with video, audio and results feeds.

All eight Primary Schools will compete for the GULF INSURANCE Champions Trophy, won last year by Charlestown Primary. The St. John's Primary School will also be attempting to retain the Division “B” Trophy won last year for the first time. Awards will be presented immediately after each event with class champions and most outstanding trophies presented at the end of the meet. All schools will be battling for bragging rights including the Division “A” schools – Jocelyn Liburd (Gingerland), Charlestown, Ivor Walters and St. Thomas’s, along with the Division “B” schools – St. James, Violet O. J, Nicholls, Maude Crosse Preparatory and St. John’s. Athletes will also be competing for selection to the Leeward Islands Youth Championships to be held in St. Kitts in May.

Events for the meet will include the 60m, 100m, 200, 400m, 800m, 1500m and the exciting relays 4x100m and 4x400m. Competition will be held in 54 events, featuring over 350 athletes in seven classes, from Kindergarten to Grade Six. Admission for the meet will be $10 for adult and $5 for children.
