Good day!

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Executives, Management and staff of Gulf Insurance Limited, and the Assuria Group of Companies, it is indeed an honour and a privilege to stand before you all today to be a part of this auspicious occasion the Nevis Inter Primary “Mini Olympics” 2016.

This year commemorates the 24th Anniversary of Gulf Insurance’s sponsorship of this event, a partnership that we guard jealously and one that we are most proud of.  Our presence here today is testament to the fact that we acknowledge our responsibility as a corporate entity in supporting our fellow citizens, and the societies we operate within.

We embrace this opportunity to support the call for the renewing of enthusiasm, passion and commitment in the youth of the Nevis society, not just to succeed in the races that they will compete in today but also to maintain that passion to succeed in ALL the races that will be required to compete in throughout their lives.

This sports day is an excellent way of bringing the community together in a relaxed environment. Sports teaches us much about life, teamwork and getting along with others. It teaches us to work together to achieve a common goal and it mandates that we place both trust and responsibility in each other in times of success and failure, ultimately we are taught great coping skills, camaraderie and the desire to never give up. Today is a day for sportsmanship, character building and teamwork, and last but not least forging strong bonds and lifelong friendships and memories.

I want also take this opportunity to remind each of you that Success is not whimsical, it stands on the courage to start, the commitment and discipline to listen, to learn, to practice, to master your art, your gifts, and aspire towards your dreams when you don’t feel like doing what is necessary.

Athletes, as you prepare to get out the running blocks and run your race today, remember you are all winners!

I want to leave you with a poem today by Berton Braley ..which says

If you want a thing bad enough to go out and fight for it, to work day and night for it, to give up your time, your peace and your sleep for it,

If all that you dream and scheme is about it and life seems useless and worthless without it

If you gladly sweat for, fret for and plan for it and lose all your terror of the opposition for it

If you simply go after that thing that you want with all of your capacity, strength and sagacity, faith, hope and confidence and stern for tenacity

If neither cold nor poverty, famish or gout, sickness or pain of body and brain can keep you away from the thing that you want

If dogged and grim you be size and beget it, with the help of GOD you will get it.

In closing, I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge all the good work done by your Principals, Teachers, Coaches, Parents, the organizers Mr. Blackett, the Ministry of Education, The Ministry of Youth and Sport  and other members of the organizing team who have done a great job in putting together today’s program.

I wish all competitors good luck at the Gulf Insurance 24th Inter Primary “Mini Olympics” !

Jason Clarke, Chief Executive Officer
