Titans: Antigua ready

Titans Ready for Antigua by Curtis Morton

Mr. Timothy Caines, President of the Titans track and field club on Nevis, indicated yesterday that his club is ready for an upcoming big event in Antigua.  The team will journey to Antigua on Saturday May 1st in order to participate in the ‘Sir Robert Samuels Classics”.  This is a track and field meet that will feature clubs from Antigua and around the region.

Caines indicated that he will be travelling with a full contingent of 26 athletes and 10 other individuals on the management team which will include a few parents.

The team was originally set to travel on Friday 30th April but this was delayed by one day in order to minimize accommodation cost in Antigua.

The Titans is expected to be represented in all of the track events from the 100 meters right through to the long distance races and the relays.  There is not that kind of certainty for the field events but Caines expects at least one competitor for the javelin throw and one for the high jump.  He is confident that his club will perform well and indicated that the athletes are keen and ready to represent Nevis.

He used the opportunity to thank the general Public and sponsors for their kind support and assistance and was especially pleased with the support given for the Titans luncheon and barbeque night out which were held recently.

The club will continue intense preparations at the Elquemedo Willet Park during the course of this week.
