Antigua and Barbuda "National Junior Championships"

Tanika Liburd and Robert Morton both of the Charlestown Secondary School, excelled at the Antigua and Barbuda "National Junior Championships" held on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th March, 2001.
Tanika was a triple gold medallist winning the 100 metres in 12.12s, the 200 metres in 26.15s and teamed with three Antiguans in winning the 4x100 metres in 50.95s. Tanika recently won 5 individual gold medals in the 100m, 200m, High and Long Jump, and the Shot-put, in the Charlestown Secondary School’s Annual Sports Day held on Wednesday 21st March, and was adjudged the Class I Champion.
Robert performed well in the Antigua meet placing 3rd in the 100 metres in 11.54s, 2nd in the 200 metres in 22.74s and 2nd in the 400 metres in 53.65s. He also teamed with three Antiguans in placing 2nd in 4x400 metres. In the 200 metres Robert ran an exceptional personal best time, some 1.2s better than his previous best time. Robert recently won 1 individual gold and 3 silver medals in the Charlestown Secondary School’s Annual Sports.
The two athletes were selected by the Nevis Amateur Athletic Association based on their performances in the CSS Sports, and were accompanied by Mr. Lester Blackett, President of the Association.
The Association wishes to thank the parents and the school for allowing these two athletes to compete in these Games. The Association also wishes to encourage all the Primary and High School athletes to continue to train to enhance their performances in the upcoming meets, including the "Gulf Insurance Primary School Championships" scheduled for Wednesday 4th April, and the upcoming "Leeward Islands Track and Field Youth, Junior and Senior Championships".
