TOUR THE RACE ROUTE
You can tour the race route if you have the "Google Earth" program installed on your computer by downloading this FILE, which includes the route and locations along the route and opening it. Expand the "Cotton Ground Run File" folder added to the bottom of the sidebar (click the + sign on the left) then scroll down to the bottom of the objects listed. Click on the "Church Ground Run Tour" and then click the "Play Tour" button. 
 
The program provides a wide view of Nevis then zooms to the race starting point and follows the race route to the finish line. You can click the "Hide Sidebar" button for a better view. You can also turn on the "terrain" layer for a 3-D viewingThe "Borders and Labels" layer can also be turned on.  To download the free "Google Earth" program, click here
 
 
 

 
 
To view the 11km race "LIVE" requires a Yahoo identity (i.e. a yahoo email account) and yahoo messenger installed on your computer.  Start the Yahoo messenger program and add nevisaaa@yahoo.com as a contact. Select the "nevisaaa, naaa or Nevis Athletic Assoc" contact, right click and then select the option "View webcam", likely under "Actions" or "More Actions". The race will be seen in the webcam window..
 
The production will commence from approx. 7:30 am as the runners get ready for the start of the race at 8:00 am. We will attempt to also provide audio during the production.
 
Hope you will enjoy what is likely the first time ever for a "LIVE" production of a road run in the Caribbean.
 

The 7th annual Church Ground "marathon" - a distance of 11 km - is just about two weeks away (4th May 2009) and many athletes on Nevis (and St. Kitts) have already started warming up for the event.  The run is hosted every year by the Church Ground Sports and Social club, led by Spencer Hanley. Registration is already open and early registrants will pay $20.00 EC while persons registering on the day of the race, will pay $25.00 EC. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt.


The race as per usual will commence at the top of Church Ground, next to the residence of Mrs. Myrtle Guishard and the athletes will head through Hamilton, down upper Government Road, right along the bypass road, left onto the Island Main Road, following the Island Main Road to Government Road, left up Government Road, making a right turn at the old location of the Federal office, left at the Park Road intersection, around the Culturama complex, left at CSS, through Stoney Grove, right at Pump road at the Dyer's family resident, to the Island Main Road, right at the junction and proceed towards Bath Hotel, left at the bottom of the hill, right at the tamarind tree in Bath Village, right at the junction of the road going towards VON radio, through lower Bath towards Reliable Motors, up CSS road and ending with a one lap finish at the Villa, Charlestown. On the completion of the race, the general Public is encouraged to stay at the Villa grounds to enjoy what effectively would be a family day with lots of food, music, a cricket match involving the under 13’s cricketers, dominoes and other fun activities. Lots of  fabulous prizes will be distributed as well.
