Adrian Williams Gold

Congratulatory messages below
Adrian Williams, a 14 year old athlete from Butlers Village, Nevis shocked the Caribbean Track & Field sports world at the 2010 Carifta Games being held in the Cayman Island over the Easter weekend. With just one year of training in the Javelin, Adrian captured the Gold medal with a throw of 57.86m in the first Day of competition at the National stadium. Adrian defeated Barbadian thrower, Janiel Craigg, into second place with the same distance, followed by Gerrio Rahming of the Bahamas with 57.74m. The meet officials had to go to the second distance thrown to separate the two athletes with Williams at 57.42m and Craigg at 56.85m. Williams took the lead with his fourth throw after being in second place after round one and in third place for the next two rounds. His series of throws were 57.42m, 55.14m, 56.17m, 57.86m, 54.35m, FOUL.
In an interview with Terry Finisterre after winning the Gold, Adrian stated that he just threw a Javelin during a training session and was noticed (by Head coach of the Gladiators Track Club, Mr. Wakely Daniel) who recognized his talent. He then started training with Coach Denzil Parris and with a few weeks left before Carifta Games was put under the tutelage of National Record holder in the Javelin, Mr. Colin Walters. Williams has consistently thrown over 50 metres during Development meets and at the Carifta Trials in St. Kitts where he threw over 56m. He was tipped to be a Gold medal favourite for the St. Kitts-Nevis team (see article below).
Adrian attends the Gingerland Secondary School and is currently in 3rd Form. He is the son of Glennette Williams of Butlers Village, St. James.
Note: Adrian's distance of 57.86m would have placed him 4th in the Under 20 Male Javelin, just completed.
