Caribbean athletes sweep women's sprints in Rio.
Caribbean athletes swept the women's sprints taking the top two places in the 100, 200 and 400 events in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Reigning Commonwealth double gold medallist(100/4x100) Sherri-Ann Brooks of Jamaica won the 100 metres at the Grand Premio Brasil Caixa de Atletismo meet on Sunday in 11.30 ahead of Tahesia Harrigan of the British Virgin Islands. Harrigan, a bronze medallist at the 60 metres at the 2008 World indoor Championships clocked 11.33. Brooks completed a sprint double taking the 200 in 22.72 ahead of compatriot Simone Facey. Facey, a member of Jamaica's winning 2009 World championship 4x100 relay team, was second in 23.05. Christine Amertil of Bahamas took the women's on lap race in 51.67 seconds ahead of Alian Pompey of Guyana) in 51.76.
