13-15 May:

A more detailed report item on this weekend performances (to include excerpts from exclusive interviews) will be posted soon.

Tanika Liburd, Kevon Pierre, Desarie Walywn (of Nevis) and Nathandra John and Delwayne Delaney (of St. Kitts) competed in the exciting Conference Championships over the weekend.

Click for Tanika Liburd's pageTanika Liburd captured 3 medals (Silver in Long Jump and 100m and Bronze in the 4x100m) at Conference USA meet, held at the University of Houston. Her performance was particularly stellar in the 100m (11.67s), coming from behind with a late rush to take the unexpected silver medal on the line. While her Long Jump effort fell short of her expectations (20' 3.75" or 6.19m), she was unfortunate to have her best jump nullified by a phantom Foul in her final effort. Her response to that "mistake" was her scintillating 100m. She also ran a dramatic final leg for the 4x100m relay in a NCAA Regional Qualifying time of 44.75s, to snatch a Bronze medal for her team, University of Southern Mississippi.

Click here for Kevon Pierre's pageKevon Pierre also won 3 medals, double silver in the 100m and 200m sprints in the Sun Belt Conference Championships. He was very unfortunate in the 100m, which was run in the reverse direction, resulting in him dipping at the wrong line, but still managing to run an excellent time of 10.33s. Given his easy 10.32s preliminary time, Pierre was expected to run sub 10.2s. The winning time was 10.22s. Pierre also ran the 200m in a new Personal Best and new Florida International University Record time of 20.82s (49th best time in the World). He also won Bronze in the 4x100m and ran the final leg in the 4x400m relay.

Posted by NAAA on 7/20/2004, 35KBDesarie Walywn placed 4th in the 200m (24.15s) and 5th in the 100m (11.76) in the WAC Conference Championships held in Oklahoma. She also helped her Rice teammates to capture a Silver medal in the 4x100m (44.83), in a Regional Qualifying time. Desarie earlier ran a 23.85s 200m in the semifinals.

Posted by nevistrack1 on 5/18/2005, 39KBNathandra John stunned her teammates and the crowd with a new Personal best of 52.91s in the 400m (a new Texas Christian Univ. Record) and 44th best in the World. Her 3rd place finish was not what she wanted however, and she will be attempting to improve her performance at the Regional Championships in 2 weeks. She also assisted in capturing Gold in the 4x100m (44.59s) and 4x400m (3:34.82s) - with a scorching 52.6s last leg without any competition, for a new Meet and Conference Record. Both relay times in the Houston hosted Conference USA Championsips, qualifying TCU for the Regional meet.

Delwayne Delaney ran a superb leg in the 4x100m for TCU, capturing a bronze medal in 40.10s, at the Conference USA Championships. Earlier, Delaney ran a season best 10.37s in the 100m, but was unable to repeat the performance in the finals, clocking 10.64s. He was unable to qualify for the 200m final with 21.17s, but it was again a season best performance. Unfortunately, Delaney will not be able to compete in the upcoming NCAA Regional Championship, due to a suspension of the TCU male team, for post season competition.
