2002 LEEWARD ISLANDS TRACK & FIELD
YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP
 
The Nevis Amateur Athletic Association will be hosting the "2002 Leeward Islands Track & Field Youth Championships". The meet will be held at Grove Park, Nevis on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May 2002. The Opening Ceremony will be held on Friday 24th May, at 6:30 p.m. Invitations were sent to Antigua, St. Martin (Dutch), Montserrat, St. Kitts, BVI, USVI and Anguilla, to attend this Championship.
 
Teams were asked to provide the following information by the deadlines indicated below:
  1. Your intention to participate and your approximate team size by Wednesday 15th May 2002
  2. Your final Team Size (including officials), full registration, and travel details by Monday 20th May 2002.
NOTICE:  The Nevis Teacher’s Union will be staging a “Star Search” Concert on Saturday evening (25th May) at the Culturama Complex, located next to Grove Park. The concert is scheduled to commence at 7:00 p.m.
 
The purpose of the concert is to raise funds to send a Nevis Youth team to the Caribbean Union of Teachers Meet, slated for Trinidad in July.

ALL athletes MUST compete in their respective classes, with the following exception: Athletes are allowed to compete in a higher (older age) class during a competition, provided that this information is declared at the Technical Meeting (and in your registration), and the athlete remains in that declared class for the duration of the meet. NOTE: This applies to Relays as well.
 
All Teams MUST present valid passports or birth certificates at the Technical Meeting for age verification. Failure to do so will result in the non-performance of the athlete/s.
 
TRANSPORT
Transportation will be provided for all athletes and Team officials between the Athlete Village and Grove Park, and from/to the entry/exit points, and for all other necessary functions/activities.
 
REGISTRATION
Deadline - Monday 20th May 2002
The registration forms must be correctly filled out. Electronic Registration will be used, that is the Registration data may be sent as an attachment in an email. Specific details will be provided but the information will include the following - Names, sex, birth date and classes of all competing athletes
 
(Up to 35 athletes may be registered but must be classified as stated above.). The correct names of the athletes competing in the various events including the relays.
 
Note: Two (2) athletes are allowed per event, with a two-day maximum of 5 events, including relays. Numbers will be assigned and is an essential part of the judging process and MUST be worn at all times by competing athletes. No athlete will be allowed to compete without his/her number.
 
POINTS SYSTEM
Individual and Relay Events  1st - 10  /  2nd - 7  /   3rd - 5  /   4th - 3  /   5th - 1
 
UNIFORMS
Each Team must be attired in uniform with registered colours. Teams are requested to register their colours with their Registration. NOTE Registered athletes will NOT be allowed to compete unless appropriately dressed in the designated uniform. Exceptions will only be allowed in extreme situations (so determined by the Chief Registration Official). Numbers will be provided on Friday evening, 24th May, at the Technical meeting. Teams will be held responsible for their numbers.
 
MEALS
Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided for each team during the competition, from 1 p.m. Friday, 24th May, until breakfast on Monday, 27th May.
 
CALL SYSTEM
A Three-Call system will be used.
Track & Field Events
  • First Call 6 events before
  • Second Call 4 events before
  • Final Call 2 events before
Athletes will be required to Check-In at a Registration Booth. Athletes not registered at the Check-In area will NOT be allowed to compete. Marshals will be used to escort athletes from the Registration area to the starting positions, and from the finishing line to the Athlete’s Area.
 
STANDARDS
Starting heights are indicated in the 2002 Rules and Regulations. Incremental heights for the High Jump will be 2 in (5 cm) initially, and will be subsequently reduced, at the Chief Judge’s discretion, to 1 in (2 cm).
 
RULES
Generally, IAAF rules will be implemented. Deviations MUST be agreed prior to the competition and at the latest, at the technical meeting. Races The crouch start will be compulsory for the start of all sprints (100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m, 4x400m). Starting blocks will be available. Photo-finish An Automatic timing system will be used for ALL track events.
 
AWARDS
Medals will be presented to the top three finishers in each individual event, and to the top three teams in the relay events.
 
Trophies will be presented to the following:
  • MALE & FEMALE TEAM CHAMPIONS  (U – 11 / 13 / 15)
  • MALE & FEMALE CLASS CHAMPION
  • MOST OUTSTANDING MALE & FEMALE ATHLETE
Presentation Ceremonies will be held during the meet and after the last event on Sunday.
 
TEAM INFORMATION
 
OFFICIALS
Each Team is allowed a maximum of five (5) officials as a part of the team. The organization committee will not assume the responsibility for additional persons to the championships beyond the established limits.
 
TRAVEL DETAILS
Travel information should be provided by Monday 20th May 2002. Kindly provide full details including flight number, airline, arrival/departure date and time, number of persons on flight etc.
 
TRAVEL ITEMS
Teams are requested to travel with a tape of their National Anthem and at least one (1), preferably two (2), suitably sized National flags: one for use on a flag pole (primary) and the other for use in the March Past (secondary).
 
RECEPTION
It is proposed that a reception be held immediately after the Opening Ceremony on Friday evening. Dress will be casual.
 
ACCREDITATION
All team officials and athletes will be accredited and given Identification Tags at the Secretariat on arrival. Team members will be expected to wear Identification Tags at all times
 
OPENING CEREMONY
The Opening Ceremony will be held on Friday 24th May at 6.30 p.m. Teams are therefore expected to arrive in time for this important function. Teams will assemble at the Charlestown Waterfront (near the gazebos) and will march to Grove Park, accompanied by suitable music and escorts.
 
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation is expected to be provided at Government schools, from 4 pm on Friday 24th May to 7:30 am Monday 27th May. If teams need to be housed outside of this schedule, then alternative arrangements will have to be made by the visiting Association. Teams arriving before 4 pm will be temporarily placed at Grove Park. The same temporary arrangement applies on Monday morning.
