Central to the workshop will be the significance of philosophical argument for education as education is a "Contested Idea".  The following questions will concern us: What is Human? Can Bildung be captured in standards and is the influence of the Bologna process on educational processes and the central concept of trust questionable ? Is teaching a moral practice? How do educational values express themselves in language?

Workshop 2 by Wolfgang Kuschnigg

Title: “To a better understanding of countries and people in the world”

Central in the workshop will be the observation of an upcoming nationalism (see nationalist parties in different countries). A former colleague found in his research on natural hazards, that after three generations, everything is forgotten because nobody can tell as a participant. Nobody can remember by its own. What can teachers do in their daily work against upcoming nationalism? Are there topics in the different curricula about Europe and people in different countries for an better understanding? What subjects teach ‘Europe-European’? Is being ‘European’ a goal?
