Section NExT

The Northeastern Section will be holding a Section NExT program for new and relatively new colleagues at the Fall 2014 section meeting. By providing talks and workshops on issues of interest, opportunities to meet and share ideas with other new colleagues, and an introduction into Section activities, we hope to assist new faculty in their transition from graduate school to professional academic life. We welcome all untenured full-time faculty, both those who have and have not been National NExT fellows.

Navigating the Early Years in Academia

Chris Rodger, Auburn University

Abstract: During this session we will discuss the possibilities for academic growth over the first few years of being in a tenure-track or post-doc position. This will include consideration of research, extra-mural funding, teaching and outreach opportunities. It is expected that the format will include discussions involving comments from the participants.

Bio: Chris Rodger is currently the Don Logan Endowed Chair of Mathematics at Auburn University, having just completed a 4-year term as the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the College of Sciences and Mathematics. He has regularly mentored young faculty, both at Auburn in various departments, and through Project Next.

Lunch will be provided for the Section NExT program between noon and 1:00pm, and the meeting registration fee will be waived for all Section NExT participants. To register for the Section NExT program, you should contact Jason Molitierno, and you should fill out the preregistration form for the meeting and check off that you will be attending the Section NExT program.

Immediately following Section NExT in EN B221 there will be a pedagogical workshop on using GeoGebra in the college classroom that might be of interest to the Section NExT attendees.
