NESFA 2009 Hugo Recommendations

NESFA continues to maintain a list of Good Stuff to read. Any NESFA member who reads something that they would like to recommend to others to be considered for a Hugo nomination can add it to the list. We will publish it from time to time in Instant Message and on the nets. (Feel free to reproduce it provided you reproduce it intact!) It's neither definitive nor complete, but it contains the stories, novels and non-fiction works that a bunch of well-read fans feel may be worthy of a Hugo nomination.

These are items first published (or first published in English) in 2009 and eligible for the Hugos to be presented at Aussiecon 4, September 2-6, 2010, in Melbourne, Australia. Some items published outside the U.S. in prior years but first published in the U.S. in 2009 are also listed, since the Worldcon Business Meeting again extended their eligibility for the Hugos. The nominating deadline has now passed. The voting deadline is 11:59 pm PST on July 31, 2010. For more information about the Hugos, see theHugoAwards.org.

Length: The complete running time excluding previews, promotional trailers, commercials, public service announcements, or other extraneous material, based on the first general release of the item. According to some recent Hugo Administrators, nominations made in Long Form of items running 90 minutes or less, or in Short Form of items running over 90 minutes, will be ignored unless they can be moved to the other category without increasing the number of nominations there beyond five.  Not all Hugo administrators agree.

IMDB: The running time is from the Internet Movie Database.

Eligibility: Note that 'Doctor Who - The End of Time', was a two-part single story, the final part of which was first broadcast on 1st Jan 2010, so it is not eligible as a 2009 work for the Hugos this year. (It will be the decision of the 2011 Hugo administrator as to whether to accept it a a 2010 work.) [vjd]

Noteworthy Works by Potential Campbell Nominees

(We do not make recommendations on these pages for the Hugo awards which are given to people (such as Best Editor or Best Artist), but for the Campbell Award for Best New Writer we do note recommended stories by people we believe to be eligible.)
