THE BOWLING YEAR - 2018!
Welcome to the 2018 season. Though it is still a bit cold for bowling outside, the days are getting longer & the playing season will start soon. Coming events will be posted here. For the schedule of tournaments and other events, see the Event List/Calendar.
Some special events are planned for the start of the season:
BOWLERS' WORKSHOP: Tuesday, May 1.
For bowlers who want to improve their skills & knowledge of the game. Contact Gerry Laporte [613-825-4345] or Larry Myers [613-523-1482] or by e-mail [larrymye@gmail.com] if you want to attend or to get more information.
OPEN HOUSE: Saturday, May 5, 10am-3pm, Tuesday, May 8, 7-8pm & Thursday, May 10,7-8pm
For anyone who wants to give the game a try. Just come along (bring flat-soled shoes if you have them). You'll roll bowls & see what the game is about. It's good, easy exercise at a very low cost; first year membership is $80, which covers EVERYTHING!
CURLERS's DAY: Saturday, May 12, 9-11am
Curlers (and others!) are invited to come along & try "Curling on Grass". Bring your rink along or come on your own, even if you don't curl!

If you haven't tried lawn bowling and don't know much about it, think of "Curling on grass in the sunshine"! You can also check it out on YouTube; e.g. 2014 National Mixed Pairs Lawn Bowling Championship Gold (youtube.com/watch?v=tNifSh3nvss) is a great example of playing outdoors with "curling like" takeouts while Australian Open 2011 Mens Pairs Final (youtube.com/watch?v=topOZxjlk6u) clearly shows how the bowl curves as it travels to the head; the bowl does the curving without any assist from the bowler!
New members, and especially those new to the game, are welcome at any time. The club provides coaching and equipment (bowls) to those who want to try the game for the first time, or want to renew an old interest. Bowling is a low cost opportunity for some exercise and friendship. The annual membership fee is $140 but only $80 for new members in their first year. See the New Member Information page for more details.
Club bowling may begin as early as April 1, depending on the weather! Until the weather warms up, sessions start at 1.30pm, Monday to Friday, and then switch to 9.30am, usually in mid-May. As the temperature drops in the fall, sessions return to the 1.30pm start. Evening sessions (Mon, Wed), starting at 7.30pm, take place during the periods of morning sessions, usually from mid-May till mid-September. The changes from afternoon to morning and vice-versa are posted.
Bowlers who wish to play in a given session should be present at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
