District Food Security Networks have been initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC) and the WFP in 60 district out of the 75 district of Nepal. They meet quarterly under the chairmanship of the Chief Distric Officer or the Local Development Officer. Membership is open to all stakeholders in the district including representatives from local and international NGOs, UN agencies, Government Institutions and civil society.

The District Food Security Networks meet on a quartely basis and use the food security phase classification approach, which is based on the global Integrated Phase Classification method but adapted to the specific context and conditions of Nepal, to monitor and analyse the status of food security in the district. Each District Food Security Network prepares a quarterly District Food Security Bulletin in English and Nepali.

A District-Based Food Security Monitoring Handbook and Training Manual has been prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC) and WFP to provide guidance to the members of the distric food security networks. This guidance material is available in Nepali and can be downloaded by clicking on the following links.
