Early Years

1902

Some younger fans might think that successful Nebraska football started with Tom Osborne, if they are a little older they might think it started with Bob Devaney.  In reality NU was one of the top football programs from the beginning.  Here are a few of the early accomplishments.

Nebraska was invited to the Rose Bowl after the 1915 season but declined.

From 1922-1924 Notre Dame had a backfield that would become known as the Four Horsemen.  They had a 3 year record of 27-2-1 with both losses to Nebraska.

In 1925 led by Ed Weir, NU defeated Illinois in Champaign when Red Grange was a senior - and held the Galloping Ghost to no scores both his senior and junior years.
