 *  There  have been many changes over the years with various conference memebers etc.  Also many teams were Independents at one time.  For example Georgia Tech and South Carolina have been members of the ACC, SEC and  Independents.  Penn State (and other teams that are now in conferences) bowl games will show up in the conferences after they joined, and as  Independents before that.
1. This does not include a few games from the Southern Conference prior to the SEC
2 - Includes the Pac 8 and Pacific Coast Conference - forerunners of Pac 10
3 - This has many teams that are now in conferences
4 - Also has stats from Big 7, Big 6 and a few years from the original Missouri Valley Conference -  (Only  teams that went to Big 6-7-8 from Missouri Valley Conference)  The Big 8 1960-1995 would be 55-52-1, 0.514 %.

I might in the future add titles prior to the first AP title in 1936, and add FWAA and NFF selections.

 * This includes many teams that are now in conferences but won their NC as an Independent.

1. The purpose of this chart is not only to show how many NC's various conferences have but also how many different conference teams have won a National Championship
