About me and my work

(Update: Aug. 11)

My name in Vietnamese is Nguyễn Chánh Tú (please use Unicode UTF-8 for correctly viewing), my family name is Nguyen.

I was born in 1965 in Danang, a city in the middle of Vietnam, about 800 km from the south of Hanoi and about 900 km from the north of Ho Chi Minh city (the previous name is SaiGon). My native village is La Tho, Dien Hoa, Dien Ban, Quangnam province, just 25 km from the south of Danang.
My childhood was affected by the Vietnam war. Although the war ended in 1975, many children's fates have still faced several serious problems until now.

I was studying in Department of Mathematics, Hue University of Education from 1986 to 1990 located at Hue city. My University now belongs to Hue University. After graduating from University (1990), I was an assistant at my Department and became a lecturer there in 1992.

In September 1993, I got an one-year fellowship from UNESCO to study Diploma Course in Mathematics at International Centre for Theoretical Physics(ICTP) in Italy.

From September 1994, I got a fellowship from Mathematical Research Institute in The Netherlands (MRI) to study Master and then continued to do my Ph. D in Department of Mathematics, Utrecht University , The Netherlands.

My Ph. D Supervisor is Prof. Dr. F. Oort. In November 2000, I defended my thesis entitled "Star points on cubic surfaces" which can be downloaded freely from the homepage of Utrecht University Library. From 1995 to 2000, I just stayed for 5 months per year in Utrecht and I did my teaching duty in Hue University in the remain time.

My major is study of surfaces from the Algebraic Geometry point of view. From September 2001, I got a two-year postdoctoral fellowship from Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)   to do research under supervision of Prof. Dr. M. Oka. During that time, I was studying and doing research in Singular Theory at Department of Mathematics, Tokyo Metropolitan University.

From 2007, I am a visiting professor of Advanced Program in Electronic and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Embedded System (ES), Danang University of Technology.

I was conferred the Associate Professor Title in Mathematics  in December 2007.

From Jan. 01, 2011, I am working at CoE, Da nang University of Technology, Viet Nam.
