This Week @ Troop 257 – 11/19/2014:

  • On Monday 11/24 is a regular Troop meeting, and the Red Bulls are doing the opening and the Shadow Dragons have the skills presentation on Hypothermia.
  • Well on this past Monday night we voted on which week of summer camp 2015 we want to attend at Camp Durant and that is the week of 7/5/2015 through 7/11/2015.
  • We also voted on the local of the 2016 high adventure trip that we would like to take and your vote went for Philmont.  We have entered the lottery and we should know something in the next month or so on whether or not we were chosen.  As a backup plan, it was decided, that if we are not selected during the lottery, we will then apply for Northern Tier which has not opened and will not open their application period for 2016 for several more months.
  • Remember all you aspiring First Class guys.  OA elections will be held early this year.  So instead of April or May elections this year they will probably have to be completed by March.  Tap out will be at the Spring Camporee at Camp Bowers.
  • Remember that this is the Month of “Mo”vember.  A challenge has been given to all the leaders to shave their whiskers and grow a mustache during the month of November.  The scouts have the same challenge.  We know that some of the Scouts will have to be creative in their mustaches.  On the meeting night of Monday December 1st we will have a judging of all of the mustaches and there will be prizes.
  • The Christmas Party is tentatively scheduled for Sunday 12/7/2014 at Elementis.  It will be a late afternoon and evening party and Court of Honor.  Please make plans now.
  • We will be doing a Christmas Child again this year.  We waiting on the information on the child.  We will get that out as soon as we have that information.
  • The Northeast Cape Fear District is looking for Scout volunteers to help organize and run the 2015 Spring Camporee.  We will probably only be able to place two of three on this committee.  Please see Mr. Mark on this matter.
  • Please be sure to check out our website www.nctroop257.org for pictures and more.  There are close to a 1000 pictures on the site, check them out.  Plus there is a lot of other information on the site too.

This Week @ Troop 257 – 10/23/2014:

  • On Monday 10/27 prior to the Troop meeting several of you have signed up Patrol organization.  This will start at 6:30 PM.  We should wrap this up on this Monday.
  • On Monday 10/27 is a regular Troop meeting, and the Red Bulls have the opening.  We are planning on voting on summer camp venue for 2015.  Also, two  Mondays ago we handed out a letter about a high adventure trip to one of the (5) high adventure outposts in 2016 (The Bechtal Scout Reserve, Northern-Tier, Philmont, Sea Base and Swamp Base).  As described in the letter some of these outposts have lotteries to see if you will be selected and allow to come.  Some of these will start in late October of this year.  So Scouts and parents a like if you have a preference and want to see go to a specific place then show up at the meeting.  Also at Monday’s meeting the various patrols have been tasked with doing a skit on one or more of the (7) points of Leave No Trace.
  • This Tuesday Evening at 6:30 PM at the Northside Baptist Church (yes the one by McDonalds) is the Order of the Arrow SIPO chapter meeting.
  • On Saturday November 1st we have been invited to participate in a fishing tournament (that our very own Kieran Schwartz and family are assisting with), the flyer for this is attached.  All time spent fishing will count as service hours.  I can think of no better or easier way to earn service hours than by fishing.  See the attached flyer and plan on helping out the local Flounder population.
  • Remember all you aspiring First Class guys.  OA elections will be held early this year.  So instead of April or May elections this year they will probably have to be completed by March.
  • Pop Corn sales are coming to a close and you need to wrap things up and bring in your forms this coming Monday 10/27.
  • We are still in the Hunt for more Den Chiefs.  We have (8) brave scouts at the moment we can use at least (2) more.  As a Den Chief you will be assisting the Cub Scout Den leader in running of the Den.  Please see leadership about this great opportunity.
  • Please be sure to check out our website www.nctroop257.org for pictures and more.  There are close to a 1000 pictures on the site, check them out.  Plus there is a lot of other information on the site too.
