Welcome

Welcome to our NC Survivors of Interactions with Sociopaths (NCSIS) Support Group.

NCSIS is a support group located in North Carolina focused on education, support, and healing from interactions (usually romantic relationships, but could also include family or work) with psychologically disordered individuals. Created in January 2011, our group's goal is to move forward from our experiences and interactions with sociopaths in positive and healthy ways.

There is a wide range of personality disorders, and since many people who exhibit sociopathic* behavior do not believe that they need assistance, or they blame others, it is unlikely that they will ever be properly diagnosed, if at all. Research has not generally shown that therapy or medication yield any improvement in the behavior of someone who is disordered in this way.

*It is important to note that the terms "Sociopath," "Psychopath," and "Anti-Social Personality Disorder" are often used interchangeably depending on the preferred choice of terms by the author/researcher/expert, etc. Other personality disorders that we may encounter include, but are not limited to Narcissism, Bipolar Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Schizoid Personality Disorder, etc.

The best way to protect yourself is to have as little contact as possible with a person who is exhibiting this type of behavior. However, if the person is a family member, or you have had children with this person, it can be very difficult to manage the various situations with which you may be faced.

If your life has been touched by someone who exhibits sociopathic behavior, you may have been traumatized more than you realize. Seek professional support from a licensed therapist or counselor.
