Our Mission

BACKGROUND

Ukhrul district covers 237 villages situated, in the eastern part of Manipur-India, with a population of 150,000. In the 1990’s an ethnic clash occurred between two tribes, the Naga tribe and Kuki tribe. The clash led to the displacement of many villagers from their homesteads and many lives lost in the encounter, unfortunately children and women were the worst victims.

In the aftermath of the ethnic clash in Manipur (Ukhrul), the sense of humanity started working in an effort to consider the future of those affected by the unfortunate incident, particularly the children. Many children were displaced or homeless, not to mention those without parents. In the backdrop of this situation Mr. Pilate Mahongnao has come forward with a plan to render humanitarian service towards the care of those affected, work for children and accordingly has created a trust titled “Nehemiah Mission Trust”. Pilate Mahongnao was born on April 15, 1971 in Sinakeithei Village, Ukhrul District, Imphal, Manipur, India. He began his ministry after completing high school when he was 25 years old, working as a General Secretary with the youth in the Local Church for one year. At the time Pilate committed his life to preaching Christ among the youth but knew to be most effective for the Lord he needed higher theological training to better understand the word and how to carry it forth. He entered Grace Bible College in Haryana, India in 1997, and completed his B.Th in 2001.

The next year he went to Chennai to pursue his M.Div program and completed it in April 2004. The same year he got engaged to Shitoni and they were married July 12, 2006. In 2005 Pilate Mahongnao came to the United States for higher education, and later his wife joined him. He received his Th.M program from International theological Seminary in 2007. Currently, Mr. Pilate is working as an international pastor for international student with ISI (International student Inc.), and his wife Mrs. Shitoni is pursuing her Th. M. program at International Theological Seminary, in California USA. He had accepted the challenge and had committed to work for the living God through Nehemiah Mission Trust. Apart from his studies, he keeps himself occupied by speaking and sharing about the Nehemiah Ministry that has been set up. After completing his studies he will go back to his country to continue the work of Nehemiah Mission Trust.

HOW NEHEMIAH MISSION WAS SET UP?

Nehemiah Mission Trust is a faith ministry. We depend completely upon God’s provision for our every need. He has promised that, “You will drink from the brook, and I have ordered the ravens to feed you there.” 1 Kings 17:4.

As we look upon God’s blessing, we trust that God will mightily use Nehemiah Mission Trust to establish His kingdom on earth. We lean upon His word and wait upon His promise. As it is written in Isa 60:22, “A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation.”

Our mission is to walk in Christ’s footsteps to fulfill the Great Commission among the unreached area in India and all over Asia by preaching Christ. Jesus said “let the children come to me and don’t stop them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” Matt 19:14. As Christians, we are charged by our Lord with the responsibility of caring for children in need. The Nehemiah Mission Children’s Home was established to care for poor and abandoned children in Manipur (India) and tell them about God’s amazing love. These young ones are the future of the nation and the church

Many children are complete orphans (without a mother or father), others come from abusive backgrounds. Still others are semi-orphans (having only a single surviving parent). A few children still have both of their parents but have been subjected to such extreme conditions of poverty that their parents could not care for them.

So surely, you can see that their future is blank and presents the worst. These children need you and I urgently. By looking over the entire situation and the conditions, a thought comes to mind and fills my heart with a burning desire to at least do something, since they deserve so much more. So our intention is to build an orphanage and training center to reach out to lost souls, especially children and young people. A place where they can be housed, fed, educated, and trained spiritually by people who want to share about Christ. As for the project, initially we would like to sponsor fifty children under Nehemiah Mission. Especially children who were most affected due to the ethnic clash, and also those living in poverty recognized by the Indian Government. And so we are reaching out to you; that is, we are raising a fund to sponsor orphans and needy children of all other culture and tribes to provide them with full facilities, food, and shelter and enlightening them in the light of christian education. Initially Rev. K Mahangthei Zimik (Author) handed over Rs. 50,000/-towards the trust, through which the foundation of Nehemiah Mission Trust was able to be establish.
