Resumes and Cover Letters

  • Ideal Candidate....students are "cast" into the role of B&N district managers, divided into groups, invited to evaluate the qualifications of four potential assistant manager candidates (see attachment, "bn.scenario.")
  • ...or Ideal Argument?  As students present their arguments as to which individual is most fit for the position, it becomes clear that the ideal candidate is not the one with the perfectly-crafted experience, but rather, the person with the most compelling, data-based argument that satisfies the criteria of the job.
  • Resumes / cover letters:  Students rate model resume / cover letters (in "bn" doc below) after creating a class-driven criteria-list, using the sources here, describing the form, content, and function of resumes and cover letters.
  • Compose: Students work in pairs to draft their previous experience into language-appropriate sections of the resume
