First Blog Stuff and 15 Percent!

posted Sep 10, 2017, 4:21 PM by Nick Wheat   [ updated Sep 10, 2017, 5:10 PM ]

Hi everyone! Wheat here, with the very first blog post. If, for whatever reason, you have no idea what this website is about (or think it's porn or cam-girl related because of the domain -- short answer: IT ISN'T), then I'll talk about that now. This is a website to serve as a news outlet and a community hub for the 那由多の軌跡 (Nayuta no Kiseki) fan translation project. There are currently two members on the team: Typhlluxe and myself.

But Who am I?
My online handles are Wheat or wheat32 and you might see me around being called Nick. So now's the part where I talk about myself, so you can skip this bit if you want. I'll spare everyone of the obligatory Falcom fan speech that everyone seems to have and drones on, so I'll skip to my qualifications. I've played Nayuta no Kiseki 4 times (I think) and I clocked well over 1000 hours in Cold Steel and a few hundred in the Sky, so I'm very familiar with the terms and style that XSEED uses. My understanding of Japanese is no where near good enough to translate a game on my own, which is why Typhlluxe is helping me. If people have any questions about me, post about it in the forums! I'll gladly answer you there! Finally, I use Twitter to communicate a lot of stuff about the Nayuta project (and general shitposting), so if you're interested, follow me here.

The Project
Alright, let's get into the meat of this. Nayuta no Kiseki already has a fan translation patch, but it's mostly a machine translation. There are many grammatical errors, typos, and some mistranslations. I've been a lurker in the community for a couple years and I tried my hand at this once before, but stopped due to a lack of motivation. When Guan called out for Nayuta work in an update on the Geofront, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to get back on this (also, in case you've been living under a rock, there is a Zero no Kiseki fan translation going on and it's going to be amazing. Check out that Geofront link for more.).

Progress Report
We started roughly a month ago, and we've reached 15% recently. As of two weeks ago, we were at 10-12%. Why is the progress going slower the last two weeks? There's a lot that factors into that, but the foremost reason is both Typhlluxe and I are college students. I'm an officer in two clubs, one of which eats up 10 hours a week, plus general classwork. A couple weeks ago, I also set out to make a master reference sheet of all the character names and locations (you can find the public version of the character name sheet here!). I finished that a little over a week ago and we've been making faster progress since. I plan for us to be at 25% by the start of October, and over half way by the start of the new year.

Hopefully next time I can get Typhlluxe to write a bit for this. If anyone has questions for her or I, tweet at us (@smittywheat and @toratameru) or make use of the forums! We were supposed to have some screenshots here, but I had some trouble inserting the text, so hopefully I have something by next time. Sorry!

P.S. You might've been expecting the English title name to drop in this post. The name isn't quite set in stone yet, so I'm not ready to announce it. Though, if you've seen the poll on my Twitter, you probably have a good idea of what it'll be.
