This lake basin deep in the heart of the Sky Lakes Wilderness is dominated by the cliffs of Luther Mountain—a landmark named to provide a religious opponent for nearby Devils Peak. For an easy hike, head for the large but shallow Puck Lakes. If you continue to deep, picturesque Margurette Lake, you can return on either of two loops: a short tour to Trapper Lake or a much longer trek around Luther Mountain for a grandstand view of the entire basin. Note that visitors in the Wilderness are limited to a group size of eight people and 12 stock animals. Mosquitoes can be plentiful in late July and early August.
