Hidden in a remote forest canyon behind the forgotten hamlet of Scotts Mills, a lovely new trail in the Santiam State Forest loops to a pair of thundering waterfalls on Butte Creek. The falls spill over the same 15-million-year-old Columbia River basalt lava that created the famous waterfalls in Silver Falls State Park to the southwest.
