Coronavirus

Dear Friends and Members of Navenby Methodist Church,

RE Coronavirus and its impact on Church.

This short note provides an update on the Prime Minister’s statement of Monday 16thMarch, as the impact of the virus has changed the situation for us all quite significantly. This is because the Government has responded to a new scientific assessment that the virus will lead to catastrophic effects - if not addressed properly.

As Christians, we are called to love our neighbours – and we are all now working through how this love is expressed in our current circumstances. It may sometimes mean being in contact – providing food for those in isolation, for example.

At other times it may mean not making physical contact in order to care for, and protect our neighbour. When we were gathered together, we were ‘Church’. Similarly, as we are currently dispersed, we are still ‘Church’ and this can be reinforced in various ways.

Whilst services are now suspended at Navenby Methodist Church, BBC Radio Lincolnshire are planning to broadcast a weekly service for those who have to stay at home. It will be at 7.30 till 8.00 am on Sunday mornings, and the Rev Bruce Thompson, District Chair of the Methodist Church in Lincolnshire has been asked to present the first of these on Sunday 22nd March.

In addition, there are orders of service for people to use in their individual homes – and these can be found on the Methodist Church national website (along with other resources and information).

The Methodist Circuit Office will also be sending out regular emails to Church Officers, to provide updates on resources for home worship; and how you can access practical support if you do not have local contacts available to you. Circuit Website.

Further information and updates will also be provided via our own website.

In addition, you can also contact me as I continue working alongside the Navenby village community, and other village Churches. Meanwhile, we recognise that this is a concerning time for all, but this situation challenges us to ensure Christian love continues to be worked out practically within our communities.
