Nautilus - Maths for the Future

Nautilus is a non-profit organisation in Bloemfontein South Africa, which strives for the advancement of Mathematics. Currently our main activity comprises quarterly camps where learners from Gr.4 to Gr.12 are exposed to and educated in Olympiad level Mathematics. The learners also take part in Olympiads at these camps. Nautilus furthermore is responsible for the participation of teams from the Free State/Northern Cape in the Inter Provincial Maths Olympiad (IPMO).

  • Nautilus Dates 2015  CampDate  I - 7 March II - 6 June III -22 August  IV -31 October South African Mathematics Team Competition - SATMCThe SATMC (formerly known as the IPMO) will be held on the 12th of September 2015. The Nautilus practice camps specifically aimed at preparing our teams for participation in the SATMC will be held on the 29th of August and the 5th of September.

  • Nautilus Pre-Test During the first Nautilus of 2012, learners wrote a Pre-Test. This was done to see across grades, what level learners are at and to maybe use this information to make suggestions to learners on which Grade they should attend at Nautilus. The idea of an Olympiad-type Maths Preparation class is still envisioned to enable learners to first improve their basic Maths skills before joining in the regular Olympiad Maths classes.Here is the test that learners wrote, with the memo included.   • Who is Nautilus Nautilus was initiated around 20 years ago for the purpose of giving the more talented learners the opportunity to advance their knowledge in Mathematics and to expose them to Olympiad type mathematics. Through the years this has stayed an important objective of Nautilus. At first, the organisation only attracted learners from Bloemfontein at the then called 'Onderwyssentrum' under the leadership of Mr. Giel de Villiers who then acted as the head of the center. Through the years  Nautilus grew to such an extent that presently, learners from all over the Free State and also Kimberley from the Northern Cape attend Nautilus camps regularly.Nautilus presents four Math camps per year.
