Six new students were inducted into the Adelphi University chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha in Spring 2011.
Binghamton University is proud to announce the six new members of Gamma Kappa Alpha.
Six very deserving new members, were inducted to the National Italian Honor Society at the graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 29, 2011.
Columbia University is proud to announce that six new students were inducted to their chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha National Italian Honor Society.
University of Delaware
The University of Delaware’s Italian program inducted fourteen students into Gamma Kappa Alpha at the honors day ceremony on May 5, 2011. The ceremony included performances of Italian arias by student singers David Ginzberg, Brian Ezell and Brittany Zezima.
DePaul University is pleased to announce that six students were inducted as members of Gamma Kappa Alpha National Italian Honor Society on May 25, 2011. The ceremony was preceded by a “serata futurista,” performed by students in Italian Futurism, an advanced culture course. Students read their own poetry, performed their original musical compositions, showed their original artwork, and prepared their own futurist recipes. Instead of rotten fruit or vegetables (as would have happened during a futurist serata) the audience and the performers threw soft tennis balls at each other. The evening ended with a reception for family and friends.
The Florida State University
Eight new students were inducted into GKA through The Florida State University Chapter this Spring 2011.
Franklin & Marshall College
On April 5, 2011, the Franklin & Marshall College chapter of GKA inducted eight new members of the classes of 2010 & 2011.
Georgetown University proudly inducted four new students into the Gamma Kappa Alpha National Italian Honor Society this past Spring 2011.
The George Washington University
George Washington University inducted five well deserving new students into their chapter of the Gamma Kappa Alpha National Italian Honor Society. The ceremony took place on March 9, 2011. The ceremony took place in March to commemorate 150 years of Italian Unity.
Two new members were inducted into the Gettysburg chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha on Wednesday April 27, 2011. The ceremony was conducted as part of the Italian program’s annual awards celebration. This years celebration was especially exciting with the growing interest of students who have declared majors in Italian Studies, their first group of students to have the opportunity to do so.
Holy Cross College
The Ceremony for the Holy Cross chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha took place on the evening of Thursday May 12th, at the home of professor Susan Amatangelo. First, students and faculty toasted the end of the year and the upcoming graduation with a glass of prosecco, then the ceremony was held. Of the ten new members, seven attended the ceremony: Samantha Andrews, Alexandra Bruzzese, Francesca Bruzzese, Andrea Cersosimo, Elsa Di Ruggiero, Kevin Leggio, and Grace Noell. The following students were unable to participate: Krist Dhima, Grace Healy, and Thomas Pipoli. After the ceremony, students and faculty continued the celebration with a pasta dinner.
Indiana University is pleased to announce four new members of Gamma Kappa Alpha.
Three students were inducted into the Ithaca chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha on November 8th, 2011. At the ceremony, the candidates performed an Italian skit and introduced themselves to the audience in Italian. All of the students repeated the Oath and signed the register before receiving their departmental certificates.
Loyola Marymount University
Five students were proudly inducted into the Loyola Marymount University chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha this year on April 15, 2011.
Ten students were inducted to the Middlebury chapter of GKA on May 20, 2011.
On Thursday, April 14, 2011, five new members were inducted into Monmouth University chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha.
Nazareth College of Rochester
The Annual Induction Ceremony for Gamma Kappa Alpha was held in the Casa Italiana Lounge on April 8th, 2011. Professor Maria Rosaria Vitti-Alexander was delighted to induct five new members into the National Italian Honor Society. Following the induction, inductees gave presentations about their experiences in Italy and the possible experiences they hope to have in the future. A reception for all the participants and guest followed.
University of North Texas
The University of North Texas is proud to announce that sixteen new members were inducted into the National Italian Honor Society.
University of Notre Dame
On April 21st, 2011 four new students were proudly inducted into the University of Notre Dame chapter of GKA. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the Italian Studies Annual Honors Convocation. At the ceremony professor Robert Morse, Assistant Professor of Italian at St. Mary’s College, provided a personal reflection on his professional basketball career in Italy and on Italian culture and society during the 1970s and 1980s.
Pace University at Pleasantville
Four new students were inducted to the Pace University at Pleasantville chapter of the National Italian Honor Society on April 13, 2011.
Pennsylvania State University
All of the new students inducted are either majors or minors in Italian. Several of them have studied abroad in various parts of Italy, and many participate actively in Penn State’s Italian Student Society. The induction ceremony was held on April 15, 2011 as part of the Universities wider celebration of Italian. At the ceremony, the new members recited the GKA oath and received their certificates and cords. Many Alumni and long-standing members of GKA were present at the ceremony alongside faculty and current members of the society to welcome the new inductees.
Pepperdine University/Seaver College
Eleven new students were inducted to the Pepperdine University/Seaver College chapter of the Gamma Kappa Alpha National Italian Honor Society this past fall semester, 2011.
University of Pittsburgh
The University of Pittsford is very pleased to announce the induction of eleven new members into the GKA chapter of the University of Pittsburgh on April 15, 2011. The ceremony was followed by a small reception sponsored by the Department of French and Italian Languages and Literatures as well as the University of Pittsburgh Honors College.
Twelve students have been recognized for their outstanding scholastic performance in the field of Italian Language and literature by joining the GKA National Italian Honor Society this past Spring 2011.
Prof. Giacomo Striuli is pleased to announce that five new members were inducted in Gamma Kappa Alpha at the 2011 Senior Honors Banquet, April 11th. Each student received a framed copy of the certificate.
University of Rhode Island

Twenty six new members were inducted into the Saint John’s University chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha this past Spring 2011.

The Saint Joseph’s University chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha inducted ten new members on April 26, 2011.
San Diego State University
San Diego State University is pleased to announce the induction of ten new students to the GKA chapter.
Stony Brook University
Five students were inducted to the Stony Brook chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha this past spring 2011.
University of Texas at Austin
Four students were officially recognized and inducted into GKA at the Departmental Award Ceremony on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at the University of Texas at Austin.
The Gamma Kappa Alpha Chapter of Towson University held an induction ceremony in May to recognize two new members of the National Honor Society.
University of Vermont
Eight students were proudly recognized and inducted into the University of Vermont chapter of GKA Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011.
Wheaton College is pleased to announce six new members of the GKA, who were inducted at their ceremony on April 25, 2010. The ceremony was held alongside the Spanish Honor Society induction. A faculty member presented each student while a slideshow of pictures showed both the student and the professor working together throughout the academic year. Following the slide show two professors, one of Italian and one of Spanish would introduce the prestige of the Honor Societies and what becoming a member means for each inductee. Students would then present poems or prose passages from something they had studied in their Italian course work. After the presentations, the new inductees recited the pledge and became new members of the GKA. Refreshments were served following the ceremony.
