General Business Meeting Proposals

Highlights from the 2016 NFA meeting:

PASSED PROPOSALS: these can all be seen at

• No constitution or by-law votes at NCA

• Graduate student rep with amendment making it a voting position which can't be held by a GA from a Council member's school.  Membership voted to fill the position in Spring 2016.

• Novice final (one-year trial)

• Community college sweepstakes (5 places, no more than 1/2 the CC field)

• 10% Rule Proposal

The Sustainability Plan with its three prongs were voted on as separate legislation

• 4th prelim becomes Octafinal (without the 3 year trial)

• Saturday-Tuesday schedule (optional)

FAILED PROPOSALS: these can all be seen at

• 100 slot cap

• Council members get own vote

• Eliminate qualification system

• Lauth proposal to compete against teammates

• Lauth proposal to only give points to top three per team in out rounds

FAILED PROPOSALS sent to committee to be explored. Ad Hoc Committees will be formed this summer. Let Karen ( know if you are interested in serving:

• Drs .Randy and Kathy Richardson (formerly of Berry College) are outgoing NFA Journal editors and Dr. Richard Paine (North Central College) is the new editor

• Dr. Dan West is the new Vice President of Professional Development

• At-Large Representatives for the next three years are: Lisa Roth (Northern Illinois University) and Mary Moore (Ball State University)

• New Jr Student Rep is Danielle Soibleman (California State University-LA)

• New LD Committee is:

Sarah Collins (Cameron University)

Steven Farias (University of the Pacific)

Joe Packer (Central Michigan University)

Student Rep is Damon Brown (Western Kentucky University)

• Dan Smith (Bradley University) stepped down as Tournament Director, Karen is looking currently for a one year replacement to complete his term. Announcement of this replacement will occur in June.

NFA 2017 is at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on April 13-17, 2017.
