MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Here is some of our Christmas adventures....

First, here is the girl's "Christmas Tree" they made out of my cans of onions and refried beans from the LDS cannery

Sunday we took pictures in Christmas dresses...

Needless to say, Brielle was not cooperating.

After church, we decorated my first attempt at gingerbread cookies.  They tasted good, even though all but one pan turned out painfully hard...

There were more sprinkles and sugar on the floor than the cookies and it took two baths to wash the red and green sugar stains off of Brielle's feet.

NOW Christmas...

The biggest hit of the day was these freaky-looking giant Disney princess dolls Santa got for the girls.  They have been dragged everywhere, slept with and danced with. Belle is Maija's new sister.  I think she enjoys the fact that she can do whatever she wants with her and Belle won't protest.

Brielle got her own ballerina leotard and slippers.  She could not strip out of her pj's fast enough...

Here is Maija with her headlamp from Daddy and her 'big-girl' Belle doll from Grandma Sill

Ben dragged us all to the top of Sandia Peak to get in our 'White Christmas'. As much as I wanted to stay inside my warm house, we had fun.  Brielle loved the snow...she would NOT let anyone carry her.  She wanted to feel the crunch of the snow under her feet.  Maybe we should take her skiing? And see that coat?  Its a size 6-12 month!  One of these days she might grow a little!

Grandma and Grandpa left this morning.  It was fun to have them here for Christmas.  Brielle knows how to say Grandma and Grandpa and it was fun to listen to her ask where they were if she couldn't see them.

We missed seeing a lot of our family that we have seen every Christmas until now- but we had a good time.

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

Happy Holidays everyone!

Here a few pictures of recent stuff...

We picked up a small tree for the girls in last year's clearance for $2.  Maija loves having her own tree and if she is good at night, she can go do sleep with the lights on.

We have seen Santa twice- only once would Brielle get close enough for a picture...

Maija had her dance recital yesterday- she does a mean Animal Crackers dance!

November 19, 2007

We are off to Utah for Thanksgiving in the morning- just wanted to share what we have been up to....

First, I decided to rent a booth at a craft fair with a friend....

I spent the last 2 months making blankets, magnets and hair clips...

We set up the booth

and waited.  We waited and waited....

Turns out craft fairs are NOT my thing.  I sold a couple $2 hair clips and finally sold a blanket in the last half hour of the fair.....purchased by none other than my friend's mother.  I think she felt bad for me.  :)  SO I have 6 lovely blankets left if anyone wants to purchase one.  I even set up a website on the off chance that I would sell out and have to refer people to another source....but as it stands, all but one of the blankets I have posted are still available.

http://fuzzybabyblankets.blogspot.com

Despite my days at the sewing machine, the girls have been very good and entertained themselves well.  Brielle has turned into a true girly girl and loves to wear Maija's ballerina leotards and doll herself up.

Maija has turned into a little mommy and is constantly leading Brielle this way and that saying, "Brielle, I be the mommy and you can be the kid"

She also LOVES LOVES LOVES to color.  I found a pack of 32 markers in a back-to-school sale bin for $1, and she has been hard at work creating masterpieces.  This is her portfolio after just one week...

If you look closely, you'll notice that MOST of the pictures have a girl, wearing a dress with SHORT SLEEVES.  Nothing else will do.  I actually bought her jumbo book of princesses because we exhausted the short-sleeved dresses in all our other books.  I'm not sure where this girl got so particular in her preferences!

 Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

November 2, 2007

I know, I know- its been a LONG time.  But I have not abandoned my website-ing ways.  Beware- this post will be long.

I'll start with Halloween, then go back to reviews of Sept and Oct.

After trying my hand at a very fancy princess dress, I was all sewed out, so Brielle 's costume was improvised.

 Presenting 'Belle' and 'Bells'.

Despite the looks on their faces, they had a good time at our ward Trunk-0r-Treat and enjoyed getting candy.

Maija was too worn out to Trick or Treat much more, but after the candy was counted, her energy level perked

Brielle caught on very quickly

NOW- back to September-

Worst part of the month was saying good-bye to some truly dear friends.  I would not have survived the transition to Albuquerque if it were not for Felicite and her adorable daughter Xenia.  We miss them terribly and hope they are doing well in Tuscon, AZ.  (Here's a shout-out to my "WestSide Sister"!) Here are some pics of our last day with them at the state fair... (I hope its ok I posted these Felicite!)

The next week we took off on our adventures across the Western US.  Our first stop was Las Vegas, NV for the InterBike expo.

Ben had fun ogling bikes and the girls and I had fun taking in the sites (Bellagio is still my favorite), swimming and visiting old friends.

Then the girls and I took off to Utah while Ben flew back home to work 8 night shifts in a row.

Grandma and Grandpa Sill were only around for one visit before they took off on their adventure in Europe.  (Next time, they are taking me with them!)  We're so glad they got to go and can't wait to see pictures.

Highlight of the trip was, of course, the Scrapbook Expo!  I love going with my sisters and finding great deals on scrapbook 'stuff'!  (An entire alphabet stamp set for $1!)  I wanted to show you my stash before I put it all away, but I got on a cleaning kick one day and dismissed the idea of taking a picture....Here is my greatest purchase (Not sure Ben will let me go expo-ing again!)

If you don't know what it is, just trust me, its C-O-O-L.

We had a great time with family and, as always, completely destroyed Grandma's house before leaving.

NEXT we took off on a plane ride to Seattle, WA.

Flying alone with 2 girls was an experience.  Thankfully, my dad was willing to help us check in and got a gate pass to help us lug Maija's carseat all the way to the plane, just to find out its not FAA approved and can't be used anyway.  This only after waking at 4:30am for our 7am flight and changing Brielle's clothes after she got sick all over herself.  That all said, the girls did very well on the plane and were anxious to see their Daddy in Seattle.

Ben attended the Emergency Medicine conference, but left plenty of time to play with us.

The girls enjoyed the children's museum

And Ben was a sweetheart one day(well, he is everyday, but...), taking the girls on a boat ride and sending me out shopping with the ladies. (I don't think he will do that again! $$$)

We also went to the aquarium, but I dropped my camera right before we went inside, so I didn't get any pictures.  (like I need more pictures huh?)

We flew back to Salt Lake, spent the night and loaded up the car to drive back home to Albuquerque....phew!  We are still recovering, and have been busy since we got home.  BUT are GLAD to be here.  :)

We finally decided to paint our playhouse, and while pictures of that will follow in another post- here is a list of things we have learned while taking on this project:

1. Take out stock in Home Depot.  Any project like this requires at least 30 trips to the store, and a nice increase to their yearly profits.

2. Measure twice, cut once.

3. Count on triple your budget.

4. Wear sunscreen when tacking on shingles.

5. Put away any wet paint rollers, unless you want your dog and grass painted 'Heffalump purple'.

6. Dogs eat anything, even paint.

7. Put away the hammers BEFORE the playdate.

8. While painting a playhouse, keep an eye on your 1 1/2 yr old daughter,  so while she traverses your vegetable garden, she doesn't bite into one of these...

9. While trying to console the fiery taste in your 1 1/2 yr old's mouth, don't forget to WASH HER HANDS before she rubs her eyes...

(The effects of those dang tabasco peppers lasted all day! It was her hands that were burning by bedtime)

Sept 1, 2007

Here is a quick update on the last 2 weeks...

I just got back from a fun overnight trip with my mom and sisters.  We went to Denver to see the pre-Broadway preview of Disney's Little Mermaid.

It was so much fun.  The way they distinguished between the water and land was so clever.  All the fish and mermaids wore those Heelies shoes so they glided instead of walked.  The new songs were lots of fun and the cast is quite accomplished- including the man who played the voice of Jafar on Aladdin, Prince Eric was in the movie Chicago, and lots of seasoned Disney veterans.  I'm so glad I got to see it so close to home- I'm not sure if I would have picked this one had I been in New York, though now that I've seen it, I would see it again.

We had tons of fun hanging out with the girls with no kids or husbands!

We ate lots of yummy food and, of course, went shopping!

It was nice to get away- Thanks to all the Daddies!

Oh- and Congrats on the news I learned on my trip- my baby sister will have a baby of her own in April!

I'd like to introduce you to Maija's new best friend

This is Belle.  This is her purple dress.  This is the only dress she can wear.  There are  20 dresses.  None of the other princesses can wear this dress.  These are also ALL of the stickers that came with the toy.  It came with 12 sheets of stickers and they all ended up on Belle's "boo-tifully" dress.

Maija spends a good part of every day seated here at the kitchen table playing with the new dollies she got from Grandma Nilson.

And Brielle has decided that nothing is worth doing, unless someone else is already doing it...

Aug 14, 2007

Hey everybody-

Biggest news at our house is a new family member

Her name is Lucy.

We weren't really planning on getting a new dog just yet.  We were looking into  a brand new litter that we wouldn't bring home for 2 or more months.  BUT last Saturday my neighbor rings my doorbell, and there he is standing there with this cute little puppy, that looks suspiciously like our last dog Alice.  He said he was up in Las Vegas, NM that morning and he saw these puppies for $50.  (if you don't know, thats quite a steal for a boxer)  He said the parents had registered papers and he thought of us, and if we didn't want her, then he would keep her.  Well, we couldn't very well say no, if we were going to get a new dog any time soon, so we took her in!

Brielle is back to making soup out of dog food and water, and the cat is back to hiding in the closet all day.  The girls are enjoying her, except that the dog has decided that Brielle's ears and Maija's hair make good chew toys.

We took another camping trip, this time  to the Taos ski valley.  It was beautiful- but people say it rivals Park City, and its not even close.  Park City is much ritzier and bigger, with a choice of close to 10 ski resorts compared to Taos' 1.

We stopped at the Rio Grande river gorge for some pictures.

Today we went to the Botanical Gardens and Aquarium with some friends.  I finally decided to take the camera this time.  We go there so often I thought we had better have some pictures.

Brielle 'smelling' the flowers.  She blows on them like she blows on hot food.

It was way too hot to stay too long- and the girl's were too busy running around to get many pictures in the gardens.  But I did get a decent butterfly picture from the butterfly garden.

Like I said, decent, not extraordinary!

We are enjoying Ben's new ER schedule.  They schedule him 6 days on, 4 days off.  SO its nice to have several days off in a row to get projects done, or run off and go camping.  The summer has been very fun, but I'm getting anxious for it to cool down (even though it hasn't been near as hot as Utah).  AND I am loving all the adorable fall clothes for little girls.  Can't wait til the girls need new shoes, I've got my eye on some super cute boots for Brielle.

Just a couple new pictures on the girl's site.  AND plenty of rambling on mine....

 August 3, 2007

Just wanted to post some picture of this week's project.

Its almost done.  Maija wants a red house, so it may end up looking like a barn- but she'll love it all the same!

July 19, 2007

I was thinking I would get on and add a few fun pictures before it was time to update again....and then I realized it was really time to update again!

SO First- We decided to go to Durango, CO for the 4th.  Ben had 4 days off and after a painful drive there- we had a great time.  Our friend who is a former river guide took us down the Animas river.  We camped in the beautiful green mountains

and took a trip to Mesa Verde national park.

We took the short drive deeper into the mountains to Silverton and experienced an incredible fireworks show.  Silverton is in a little valley surrounded on all sides by big Colorado mountains.  The fireworks boomed and echoed all the way down the canyons.  Highly recommended 4th of July experience!

The girls both got big enough for new car seats.  Brielle is so happy to be able to face forwards and no longer fights me when I try to put her in the seatbelt.  Notice the yellow jersey she is wearing in honor of the first day of the Tour de France.  :)

We are having some amazing  lightning storms and gorgeous sunsets in the Albuquerque summer

This picture doesn't do it justice- but I tried

Despite the heat our garden has turned into one big monster.

before:

 after:

Anyone want some zucchini????

We really like this monster though-

Our wildflowers finally bloomed too and I LOVE the black-eyed susans!

We found a new activity here.  They have a free water sprayground in town and the girls had a blast- I didn't get many great pictures, but here is one

To my mom and sisters....Remember this???

I decided to try one the tried and true sunday hairstyles!  :)

AND just a couple more pictures....

Tonight the girls had a blast playing outside.  It was raining, but they insisted on staying out and I discovered they had made good use of Ben's sticky-rice cooker.

STONE SOUP!  Maija kept asking me to help them cook and Brielle kept bringing me samples that she tried to force into my mouth. I thought it was so cute to watch them play together.

June 24, 2007

I sat down to update and decided we need to stop taking all these summer adventures or we will no longer have room on our website for pictures!

We started the month with Dad's latest project- A fancy sandbox for the girls.

Its already getting lots of use

The first two weeks of the month we were all miserably sick- so please excuse some pictures with snotty noses and goopy eyes.

We had to stay home from church, but Maija had cabin fever from all of us being sick for so long, so we spent the day making chalk murals outside...

We just returned from our Nilson family reunion in Estes Park, Colorado. We had a great time!  Most days were spent at Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), and really all I can say is WOW!  Ben was wondering why Colorado gets the RMNP and not somewhere in Utah, but as soon as we saw it, we knew why.  The scenery was incredible.  There is wildlife everywhere. There is hiking, fishing and exploring galore.  You can even drive the continental divide along Trail Ridge Road, which takes you as high as 12,000+ feet!   Ben had a blast fishing, biking and fighting off yellow-bellied Marmots on his overnight backpacking trip, I enjoyed the sightseeing and small-town shopping, and the girls couldn't get enough swimming or playing with their cousins.  Here are a few pictures and a link to some more.

There are more pictures posted on our individual pages and on my family website at this link:

Nilson family Estes Park Pictures

May 22, 2007

Its only been a month, but I couldn't believe how many pictures I had to look through for this update.

First- we took an overnight camping trip to the Jemez.  We found a great little campsite with a creek and lots of room to run and play.  Both girls did awesome and it didn't even get too cold.

Ben is quite thrilled to announce he got his wife on a road bike and, much to her dismay, she enjoyed it more than she expected.

We just got a new double bike trailer and the girls enjoyed the ride, actually nap, too.

We then took off for our week-long adventure in Moab on the 8th.  We stayed at our favorite Moonflower Canyon site and had a blast.  Ben attended (well, sort of attended) an ACLS course with one of his fellow ER interns.  The guys got in plenty of biking.  We also took a rafting trip down the river, visited Arches NP and treated everyone to ice cream for my second birthday spent in Moab.

Maija had a great time climbing on the rocks.  Everytime I turned around, she was halfway up the rock face just across from our site.

We also made friends with a local bullfrog.  Maija affectionately refers to him as the "funny frog"  who "not say 'ribbet' say 'brak!'" And 'wake us up'.  Here is a picture of Maija holding his girlfriend.

Brielle enjoyed living in the dirt, bathing in the dirt, eating the dirt, drinking the dirt and sucking on a dirt covered binkie.

Ben did awesome with the birthday present this year. Just after coming home from Moab, Ben and I left the girls with a good friend (Thank You Peggy!)  and drove up to Denver to see Wicked for my birthday.  Ben tried to convince me that the trip to Moab was also my birthday present, but the Wicked trip was more than enough.  I loved the show, and was so happy to finally see it, as I've been trying to get to NY for that very reason for a couple years now.  Ben even enjoyed it and stayed awake through the whole thing....I guess Wicked is better than Miss Saigon.  :)

It was such a nice trip to get away by ourselves and enjoy the evening without having to worry about bedtimes and sippy cups.

We loved Denver and I'm sure we'll be taking the short drive up there again to check out more of the sights.  I've already got a trip planned with my mom and sisters to go see Disney's Little Mermaid in August before it goes to Broadway.

Check out our new link to see pictures of our backyard and garden.

There are lots more cute new pictures of the girls on their own sites.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAIJA!

I got to celebrate turning 3 with Grandma and Grandpa Sill.  I got a candle in my pancake and ate on my new pink picnic table. Then we went to the mall to ride the horsie on the Merry-Go-Round.  We went to Macaroni Grille for dinner and I had macaroni and cheese for my birthday for the 3rd year in a row!  I loved opening presents.

Saturday I got to have an Ariel birthday party with all my friends.  It was so fun.  We had sandwiches shaped like fish, watermelon shaped like shells, shell pasta, swedish fish, goldfish crackers, blue jello with mermaids in it and blue juice.  We got to go fishing for treats and I got even more presents!  Mom even made me an Ariel dress. Best of all- I got my Ariel wedding cake that I have been asking for!

It was so fun and I haven't stopped talking about it.  But now I say, "my birthday is over, so now its mommy's turn."

We are thrilled to have Maija in our family and grateful for all the joy she brings into our lives.

Easter 2007

On that note......we have some very sad news.....

Our poor little puppy Alice is no longer with us.  :(

She was hit by a truck the day before Easter and sadly did not make it.  We are all very sad and miss our little doggie.  As many times as I wished that dog away, the house seems empty and I miss her much more than I expected.  It was an event filled night.  Alice bit into Ben's hand when he went to help her after the accident, and after we rushed to the vet's office, we had to take Ben to the ER for several stitches. (You can see the bandages on his hand in the Easter pictures link).

I keep telling myself that you sign-up for that day when you bring home a pet, but we didn't realize it would come so soon for us.  We told Maija that Alice went to live with Jesus- and she seems to think Jesus is a pretty special guy now that he is taking care of her doggie.  As little as Brielle is- she seemed awfully grumpy for a few days following, and we wonder if its because she misses her friend.

Happy corndog Alice :) March 2007

We miss you Alice!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIELLE!

I'm ONE!  Check out the link  for more pictures of my fun birthday!

Brielle's 1st Birthday

We'll have lots of updates this month, with Easter coming and then Maija's birthday and party the following week! Check back often to see all our new pictures!

February 21, 2007

Nothing much new happening around here.  We had a great time last week when Grandma and Grandpa Nilson came to visit.  The girl's have been sick and poor Grandma didn't get to see much of Brielle's happy personality, but it's always fun to have visitors.

Just today, Brielle has decided to teach me that I can't leave the room anymore.  As tiny as she is, she has turned into a regular chimpanzee

Pretty soon she will be climbing up on the kitchen table!

She has also decided crawling is overrated and is trying her hand, or feet rather, at the grand traveling mode called walking.

I am starting to think Maija has Spring Fever.  Her energy level the last week has skyrocketed.

Yesterday, while visiting an outdoor mall, she took off running, flapping her arms saying "I'm a bird!  Look at me, I'm flying!"  I wish I had the video camera.  She spent the rest of the day answering to "Nana the bird" and would only go somewhere with me if I let her fly.

She has also become strangely territorial about her little sister lately. Last night at my Relief Society presidency meeting, someone was helping me out by carrying Brielle down the hall and again later out to the car.  Poor Maija thought my helper was going to run off with her baby sister and would not stop telling everyone in sight, "no, thats our baby.  Mommy thats my sister.  her not take my sister home.  Thats our blanket too."  I didn't know she was so attached to her baby.

Ben enjoyed a light working month of an ER rotation and then a week off.  It was nice to have him home so much and we are having a hard time adjusting to him being gone more often now on his OB/GYN rotation.  He made good use of his free time by prepping the backyard with a retaining wall for a flower garden and an area for a veggie garden.

Check out a few updates on our other linked pages.

 January 13, 2007

You are cordially invited to share with us a pancake breakfast!

And as most of you are too far away to participate, I'll narrate via the internet.

First- Here is Maija-

Happily eating her pancake.  Pants-less I might add, because when you change from your pull-up to panties in the morning, its not worth putting your pants back on.  She has these 2 little dolls she got from Happy Meals at McDonalds who were guests at the table this morning....

The blonde one is Little Mermaid (LM), because of the mermaid dress, and the brunette is "Holly Pocket." (HP)  Here is their dialogue:

LM: Oh we gonna eat brekast

HP: Look! its a pancake!

LM: no! its a frozen pancake, see the frozen pancake?

HP: wow

Now, I'm not sure where Maija ever witnessed a frozen pancake before, but she has learned more than that from watching Wonderpets lately.

Here is the vicious "Bri-zilla" attempting to obliterate a sizeable pancake with just one tooth.

And her vicious claws

And here is my breakfast plate

On the counter where I usually partake of my breakfast, and most meals, at that; eaten while standing up and responding to a myriad of interruptions.

Brielle cleaned her tray quite nicely....

Well, the tray is clean, but it looks like most of the pancake has been thrown to various places in the near vicinity.

NEVER FEAR!  The Canine Wonder Super Vacuum is here!!!!

Thats the end of breakfast.  Hope you enjoyed the excitement. Stay tuned for our next episode...LUNCH.

One more thing.  I'm constantly amazed at the amount of information my 2 1/2 year old incorporates into her play.  Today while she was playing with her dolls this is what I heard:

Doll#1: Hi guys!

Doll #2: Come on guys! Lets go.

Doll#3: hey guys.  here are my jammies.  Look at my jammies.  hey.  Where is my fairy godmother?  I'm a fairy godmother. hey look, hey guys, look, my diker (diaper).  Look, its my diker.  (Said while stripping off her jammies)

Doll#1: hey guys- I'm Belle- yous the beast

Doll#2:  ROAR! I"M THE BEAST

Doll#1: AAAAAGH!

Doll#3: Mommy! mommy! I need my mommy!

All you people out there that think being a stay at home mom is boring- its ok- you don't have to tell me how envious you are about my constant source of entertainment.  I enjoy every minute of it. :)

Happy 30 Birthday!

Ben had an unexpected day off- but the big 30th birthday bash that wasn't planned because he had to work still didn't happen.  Ben had breakfast in bed and we spent the day just running errands and enjoying the rare day to spend at home together.  He said he didn't want a cake, so I let Maija pick it out.  Of course she went for the "funfetti" cake and insisted on blue frosting.  I actually had to go back to the store to get enough candles- there is only 24 in a box!  Geez, he is so old!  (to be honest, I need 2 boxes of candles for my cake too.)  We were watching a football game and they commented on a 36 yr old that was still "running around with the young players."  I had to laugh, if Ben had chosen to be an athlete, his career would be close to over, but with his current career path, he's only just started!

Other news at our house is Brielle's new accomplishment:

She gets very excited and relishes the praises, though Maija has taken to reminding us that she can stand too.  I can't believe how fast Brielle is.  She uses her new toy from Christmas to run up and down the hall:

The other day I was in the office at the front of the house, she was playing on the floor, and I got a phone call.  As I do when I talk on the phone, I started pacing and wandering around,  forgetting my responsibility to take care of my child.  I quickly realized she was gone.  I took several quick sweeps of our grand 1400 sq ft house and could not see her, ANYWHERE.  I did all I could and kept tracking through the house trying to find a sign of where she could have gone.  While in my bedroom I heard a cry- but it took me a while to find her, UNDER my bed!  She had crawled all the way to the back of the house, into my room and around the the back side of the bed and had somehow got stuck underneath!  All in a manner of less than 2 minutes!  I'm keeping my ears open for a local baby race- she could win hands down.

We also tried out our new wagon from Santa:

Yes there is STILL snow here!  And no one has heard of a snowplow.  With the exception of the ever resourceful LDS church, I have yet to visit a parking lot that isn't covered in ice.  I thought I would miss the winter without snow, but I've decided one good snow for a snowman a year is enough.
