NASPR 2013 Conference - Memphis, Tennessee, USA

WELCOME!
We are delighted to announce the next NASPR meeting, to be held October 17-19, 2013, in the beautiful, vibrant, and soulful Memphis, Tennessee
The meeting will be held at the Sheraton Memphis Downtown Hotel, a state-of-the-art conference venue and the largest hotel in Memphis. The Sheraton has a range of accommodations, including restaurants, bars, an indoor pool, and a fitness center. Additionally, it is conveniently located in the center of the city and on the Memphis Trolley line, making it just minutes from shopping, museums, nightlife, and the Cannon Center (the city's premier performance space for musical and dance events).

The city of Memphis is located in the heart of the Mid-South on the banks of the Mississippi River. Home of the famous Beale Street, Graceland, and Sun Recording Studio (the birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll!), Memphis is an exciting attraction for those who love music, culture, and delicious southern BBQ. Memphis is also home to several historic museums, including the National Civil Rights Museum, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, and the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. To see all of the many (and often unique) things that Memphis has to offer, visit the Memphis Map and Tourist Guide (a PDF version can be downloaded here and an iPad version can be accessed here). Additional information can be found at www.memphistravel.com, or you can visit one of three Visitor Information Centers open daily from 9am-6pm April-September and 9am-5pm October-March. The centers are located at the following addresses:

Tennessee State Welcome Center (Downtown) – 119 N. Riverside Dr.
Memphis/Shelby County Visitor Center (East/ Shelby County) – Arlington Trail at I-40, exit 25.
Memphis Visitor Center (Southeast, near Graceland and the airport) – 3205 Elvis Presley Blvd.

***Our local hosts and student volunteers have also compiled a Memphis Local Attractions Guide, which includes information across the following categories: (1) Rock 'N' Roll and The Blues, (2) History, Culture, and Nature, (3) Family, and (4) Dining Out. Check out these fantastic suggestions from people in the know!

In the fall, the weather in Memphis is beautiful, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s by day and 40s and 50s by night. We anticipate not only an academically stimulating scientific program, but also that there will be something for everyone in terms of Memphis culture and entertainment. We look forward to seeing you there!
