Our 11th Year of Umpire Training !!!

The NBUA is proud to be hold their 11th annual Umpire Academy in 2019. Classes will begin on Sunday, March 3rd. For the 6th consecutive year, all training will be held at the Nashua YMCA, unless the weather improves and we can get outside to the Hollis fields.

Class times are 2-5 pm for each Sunday shown below.

2019 Training Schedule

Sunday, March 10th - classroom and gym
Sunday, March 17th - classroom and gym
Sunday, March 24th - classroom and gym
Sunday, March 31st - classroom and gym
Sunday, April 7th - classroom and gym

Additional outdoor session to be announced once fields are open in Hollis and/or Tyngsboro.

In the event of a weather-related class cancellation, we will post a message on our Facebook page, and we will email all current members and registered new attendees.

New (1st year) and apprentice (2nd/3rd year) umpires should attend all scheduled classes (you must attend at least 4). Veteran umpires (those in their 4th year or beyond) should attend the veterans refresher training class  (either March 24th or 31st).

The classes will be divided into 3 sections - rules, plate mechanics, and field mechanics. The rules classes will be classroom discussions on the current Babe Ruth rules, with plenty of scenarios used to help reinforce these rules.

The plate and field mechanics classes will be held in the gym at the Nashua YMCA, where we will teach you proper positioning, movement, and (of course) the correct way to make your calls.  Once the weather allows, we will head outside to the fields in Hollis or Tyngsboro to work on full-sized Cal Ripken fields.

When you have completed the Academy, you will be ready to take the online Babe Ruth rules exam (a requirement for all NBUA umpires to receive post-season assignments).

In an effort to keep class costs lower, most class materials will be provided electronically again this year. You will receive details on where to how to download those materials after registration.
