Research Interests:
I am broadly interested in the area of Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), multi-sensory signal processing, machine learning, optimization and statistical data analysis. I have specific interests and expertise in designing algorithms for applications of Augmented and Virtual Reality. These include Omnidirectional signal capture and rendering (eg. Spatial Audio, 360 degree videos), User interface design for AR/VR, Machine learning and optimization for immersive user experience analysis. Apart from theoretical aspects, I also have some expertise and interests in actual sysem deployment in diverse areas such as immersive media rendering, Quality of Experience modeling (e.g., in an immersive media broadcast application), optimized multimedia communication (eg. over internet and via satellite), developing uncertainty aware machine learning based predictors, visual surveillance, and display modeling.
My Research and Academic Philosophy is heavily inclined towards theoretically grounded and domain-knowledge driven system and algorithm development. This in sharp contrast to pure data-driven approaches which are popular today. My perspective about today's research ecosystem is best described through light hearted yet accurate descriptions below.
